This has been a good year for both Grayling and Wall along our @AinsdaleNNR UKBMS butterfly transect walk. However, it's not been so good for Common Blue or Small Copper..? @savebutterflies@UKBMSLive@BC_Lancs
This was a big surprise on our @AinsdaleNNR butterfly transect last Friday, 1st August. Lovely male Silver-washed Fritillary gliding amongst the tall Hemp Agrimony and Fleabane along a track in the coastal woodland section @BC_Lancs@savebutterflies
@Dukeofburgundy2@AinsdaleNNR@BC_Lancs@savebutterflies Wow - that is a suprise. We thought it might have been blown down from the Morecambe Bay area as there was a strong North Westerly breeze blowing at the time - but Manchester?? Our Dark Green Fritillaries are all looking very pale and worn now.
Lovely Orange Underwing along our @AinsdaleNNR butterfly transect yesterday afternoon. 25 butterflies noted, including Peacock, Comma, Speckled Wood, Orange Tip and Green-veined White. Great start to the year. @BC_Lancs@savebutterflies
An A* (or should that be a 9?) for the government for announcing Natural History GCSE. And full marks to @curlewcalls for making it happen! https://t.co/I5OwzMu25E
@MatthewOates76 Lovely Hazel catkins, Matthew, but isn't March the first month of Spring? Well, it is according to my copy of What to 'Look for in Spring' anyway!! 🤣
Here is the review of the 2024 butterfly season in Northamptonshire, with accounts of the winners and losers (spoiler alert, it's mainly losers). Let's hope our butterflies do much better in 2025!
