RIP Declan😢 Tragically, 15-year-old Declan Sawyer, who played for St Helens FC Lincoln U15s, has been named as the boy who sadly lost his life after getting into difficulty while swimming at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln during the warm weather this weekend.
Emergency services searched the water for hours before sadly recovering him later that evening.
Declan has been described by his family as a funny, kind, and outgoing young man who loved football and fishing, and it’s clear how deeply loved he was by everyone around him. No family should ever have to go through such pain at such a young age.
Thinking of Declan’s parents, family, friends, classmates, and everyone affected by this devastating tragedy. Rest in peace, Declan 💙
I find field names interesting. Saw this map in Alphamstone Church last week. Top left is the name 'Mockbeggars'. The meaning of this word is unclear. One suggestion is that it referred to a large house that no longer gave charity to the poor.
My brother is a beef farmer. His cattle go to M&S and Aldi. High quality beef.....but what's happens thereafter is out of his hands. He buys from a butcher & occasionally from a supermarket to see. @GeordieButcher has probably seen this ⬇️ & will have thoughts I'm sure.

After 8 weeks of growth, our summer cover crop at the Condobolin Ag Station is ready for termination tomorrow.
With 79 mm of in-crop rainfall, the mixes have performed better than expected for a low rainfall environment. Both a 3-species mix (sunflower, millet, cowpea) and a 9-species mix (sunflower, millet, cowpea, buckwheat, forage sorghum, radish, turnip, sun hemp and safflower) were included to compare diversity and system responses.
Buckwheat is currently flowering, while turnip has developed a strong taproot, highlighting the role of different species in driving above and below ground biomass and soil interaction.
The aim of the cover crop is to increase plant diversity, improve soil function and contribute to longer-term soil carbon and system resilience, while understanding the trade-offs in a low rainfall system.
This work is part of the FDF and Soil CRC project “Building resilient soils and enhancing carbon stocks in cropping systems through plant diversity”.
An important consideration moving forward will be how much soil water has been used, and how this influences soil moisture availability and establishment conditions for the following winter crop.

This local butcher Dissects a piece of so roasting beef from a supermarket compared to buying from them or straight from a farmer and their websites ! We should all be buying from farmers and butchers if you’re lucky to have one ! We are being charged ridiculous money from shops
Just imagine herds of well managed cattle, as far as the eye can see…
But for many reasons, that’s not happening.
Old age, bad habits and low ambition on the one hand, the desire for the cheapest food type stuff on the other.
The majority of ‘consumers’ (that includes farmers) are disconnected from good food.
They’re also highly susceptible to messaging from corporations (and Government - the same thing?) - ‘they’ll look after us’.
People have been fed high margin, environmentally and health damaging crap… while believing well managed beef cattle are a problem that requires urgent attention.
Eat real red meat and animal fat; buy the best you can.
For those looking to replace Imported Soya with a British Alternative, its definitely time to consider Novapro from @KWFeeds
For the May-Oct period, there is over £80 differential between Soya and NovaPro, good opportunity to put down some summer cover and BUY BRITISH.

BMPA has written to Defra warning that plans to develop separate livestock traceability systems across England, Scotland and Wales are fraught with unintended consequences and could risk fragmenting the UK’s animal movement records.

BREAKING:
Huge news:
The contents of a secret U.K. Govt report on Britain’s ‘critical systems’ and their grave vulnerability have just now been made public by the TIMES, for the very first time.
The report was stark in its findings, incl crucially:
“Britain’s food security…could be “at strategic risk of catastrophic failure” by 2030”.
Food was only one of the critical systems analysed in the report and found to be at risk of collapse from the end of the decade, >unless< collectively we change course to a safer, more resilient path.

I recently launched the Farm Staff Network, an online and in person community for people that work on farms (in all capacities).
A platform for farm staff to connect, learn and help each other out.
Farming has never been more isolating and farm staff can often be over looked.
So I'm trying to do something about that.
Expect -
➡️ Online community covering all sectors, plus non farming conversations about money, wellbeing, fitness, parenting etc
➡️ In person meetups, social / wellbeing stuff and farm walks and tours for professional development.
➡️ Training, career support and job postings.
Want to get involved? Sign up here ⬇️

If your the boss, support you farm team and encourage them to check out FSN 💪
@ClarksonsFarm1 What he is not telling you is that Agrophonics is a real thing, raised solar panels still allows for grazing and growing crops, it also has the benefit of reduced evaporation of the land below the solar panels.
Both can live together is not a choice of one or the other.
