I enjoy the cognitive bias of hearing any kind of link between vitamin D and covid resistance when it means I can bill sunning myself as protection. It's tax-deductable!
Some people create constant trouble to distract themselves from the deeper issues they are avoiding.
They make sure there is always a new fire to put out.
They are both fireman and arsonist.
@native0systems Yep, I'm with you 100% there. Those are solutions. I want to see alternatives to criminalization of victimless drug crimes. I want to see minor altercations dealt with without escalation for anyone. I want us as a movement to be proposing solutions like this, even if shitty
@native0systems I'll admit my own ignorance here, do police operate outside funding? Does defunding allow them to still provide a basic "crime prevention" civic duty? If so, what/who pays for that?
@native0systems When your house burns down because you realize your fire dept is a bunch of drunks that slept on your call you don't say "no more fire departments", you figure out how to make fire safety work in spite of the inevitable existence of asshats and racists in your community
@native0systems When the rallying cry is "defund" it's hard not to see it as nihilism. The police force is beyond terrible, where are our amazing minds giving us a better option?
I'm pretty sure Amazon's customer service reps think that I'm some sort of training interface when I say things like "I appreciate the promotional credit that you've granted my account, it has helped reaffirm my trust in Amazon's commitment to expedience."
