.@Apple enters a new chapter in Human Interface Design as Steve Lemay becomes the new leader of the team, working alongside Molly Anderson, head of Industrial Design at Apple. A veteran at the company since 1999, Lemay has shaped every major interface evolution from the original #iPhone to macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and, most recently, visionOS.
Tim Cook calls him “an extraordinarily high bar for excellence,” noting his depth of understanding in platform technologies and his gift for shaping intuitive, human-centred digital experiences.
With Lemay now at the helm, Apple’s design bench continues to push forward, refining the interactions, systems and visual languages that define the world’s most recognisable devices.
The latest project I’ve been working on is the design of Liquid Glass, alongside an army of designers and engineers. We're designing it to bend and shape light while feeling like an elastic, flexible material that can dynamically shape shift, to make apps feel fluid and organic.
Thrilled to share the project we’ve been working on for the past year!
Liquid Glass is a flexible material that constantly adapts to its size and environment, and lays the foundation for a unified design language across all our platforms.
We’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of Steve’s Stanford commencement address with a feature which includes a digitally enhanced version of the video along with rarely seen artifacts and firsthand accounts from people connected to the commencement. https://t.co/UNIIRBllfN
I’ve never been more thankful to be an iPhone user.
Due to the lack of cell service, EVERYONE in Asheville NC right now on iOS 18 has been able to get messages out and in with the Satellite messaging feature.
This is literally saving lives @Apple.
The new project I designed arrives today - the Dynamic Island.
Its goal is to feel like a living, elastic bubble that can fluidly shape shift into different alerts and experiences.
This is just the start, but I’m excited to see it begin its life!
The project my team and I have been working on for over a year is finally starting to roll out today. We’ve simplified the app navigation in the new Messenger, refreshed the visuals and added new features like chat gradient colors and dark mode.
