I worry that the AFL keeps trying to find band-aid solutions for problems and the short-sightedness ends up creating a whole different problem down the line. They can’t overcorrect this like they’ve done with the bidding system.
.@AFL considering changes to free agency to make sure “competitive balance isn’t distorted.” Comment from CEO Andrew Dillon. Some concern about free agents eg Ben King & Dangerfield, J.Cameron, even Toby Greene picking top teams. But AFLPA has to agree. https://t.co/pV9AffGQEZ
What a coup this is.
McVeigh and Longmire across from Sydney, and it would not surprise me if Dane Rampe is next to be an on-field extension of these two.
The atmosphere in Fremantle’s rooms were absolutely surreal after yesterday’s #AFLGF
Here is what I saw and heard as the Dockers looked to pick up the pieces from an unspeakably traumatic loss | @abcsport

@NicNegrepontis Feels like they’ve always wanted more and the pick 5 thing has been driven by Hawthorn because it’s beneficial for them to get King for free
@mosthiphop The second fall straight into the sniper position tells me this man is a seasoned vet when it comes to the business of falling. Smooth like butter lmaooo
Every club that has asked the AFL for an assistance package in the last decade has received at least one draft pick except for Essendon and Carlton.
It’s hard to see how two rookie spots and nothing else will help a club that is genuinely on its knees. 🤷🏾♂️
Breaking - Essendon has received two extra rookie spots from the AFL as its assistance package.
The spots will be for next year and then be reviewed at the end of 2027. More on @AFLcomau.
@PerriW2345 Reckon that’s probably some of the thinking behind it, but still other clubs have gotten more for being poor for way less time. Eagles getting assistance after winning a flag within the same decade comes to mind
@NicNegrepontis They’re both essentially penalised for having big fanbases so the AFL never feels like they’re in any real danger, that’s my takeaway at least.
The Gold Coast package after struggling for less than a decade remains a total joke. That was Gil looking after his baby.
Nick Daicos winning the Brownlow proved to be inevitable as the Nike commercial said.
Just another accolade for a special player who is putting together a bid to be the greatest of all time when he is eventually done | @abcsport https://t.co/zMoz20tMpb
@MrJohnnyRainman I don’t mind him criticising Wirtz, he needs to be better and start justifying his price tag, I agree with that, but where is the energy for other players on other teams?
Listened to the whole podcast to see if there was anything positive more than these sound bites and there literally wasn’t. You’d think Liverpool lost 3-0, not gotten a massive three points at a ground notoriously hard to get a result at.
Jamie Carragher on Florian Wirtz:
“I think going forward he’s got a decision to make Iraola. I mean Wirtz wouldn’t be in my Liverpool team. He wouldn’t. When I actually go through the Premier League, I was thinking about this on the way because I thought it was a big game for Wirtz because I thought if he doesn’t produce today, he’s going to have a three week break. By the time we come back to October. Before we know it, it will be Christmas! He has to do something. If you look at the league and players in his positions… forget the top teams… normal Premier League players in the middle of the table who have done more for their clubs. I think of Dewsbury Hall at Everton. No one will say he’s a better player than Wirtz… but every three to four weeks he scores a goal. I watch Morgan Gibbs White last week against Villa. He put in a performance in 45 mins that Wirtz has never done before for Liverpool. I see a goal Buendia scored. They are giving their club bits. I don’t think Liverpool fans have been harsh on Wirtz. I don’t think the football public in general have been harsh at all about Florian Wirtz.”

Wouldn’t put Kyrie in this tier at all, especially considering three different players have worn No.2 since he got traded to Boston. I would hope that it is eventually retired along with No.0
Chris Paul is considered by some to be the greatest Clipper of all time. Could the Clippers eventually retire his No. 3?
@mr_jasonjones makes the case for Paul and other active NBA players whose numbers could be honored.

As a current Essendon star watches on from afar, former Bomber Sam Draper is flying ahead of a preliminary final at the MCG.
But @ClarkyHeraldSun reveals there was a time even the Lions weren’t sure the move was going to pay off.

@NicNegrepontis Could not believe when Phillips got read out at No.3 that year. McDonald was so obviously going to be good. That draft is the perfect example of why bad teams remain bad and good teams remain good 🤦🏽♂️
Checked the career split of batsmen with a minimum of 8000 runs in test cricket. A total of 36 batsmen satisfy the criteria. The likes of AB de Villiers, Inzamam Ul Haq, Gooch and Chanderpaul have emerged as the top gainers in the 2nd half of their careers, whereas Kohli, Gavaskar, Smith and Hayden witness the largest dips.
Smith's dip is massive, but the average in the 2nd half is still fine, but an avg of 49.3 is still pretty good. The decline is more due to an elite average of 62 in the 1st half of his career.
