@RutgersAltRoute Offering feedback that emphasizes the process, effort, and persistence that is necessary to have a growth mindset. Being specific and offering praise or grace for specific situations. Giving feedback that recognizes mistakes/challenges and use them for opportunities to learn.
@RutgersAltRoute Challenges I have faced for photography and ceramics is the studio/lab time needed for each project and how to break down projects into smaller grades instead of one project grade. Some opportunities I’m thinking about are breaking down the process into their own grades.
@RutgersAltRoute By framing prioritization of effort and progress over ability then the chances of creating a growth mindset in students can be higher. By normalizing mistakes and creating chances for reflection and opportunities for improvement then students will hopefully have an open mind.
@RutgersAltRoute Teacher can promote a growth mindset by offering opportunities for positive feedback and by encouraging effort and persistence. Creating a culture that values effort and sees the positive side in failure or the embrace of a challenge.
@RutgersAltRoute Students who have different mindsets will face different opportunities and challenges in their education. Whether it’s stressing on test or not enough studying both can be opportunities to reflect. Students should often reflect and advocate for what they need to best succeed.
@RutgersAltRoute Always encouraging students to ask for help or to do check ins with them. Giving them check lists or reminders to let them know they can ask for help or feel comfortable doing so.
@RutgersAltRoute Having an open line of communication with parents, counselors, or anyone else who is a service provider to the student to see how best to help and allow them to have opportunities and access to content
@RutgersAltRoute I have modified photography or ceramics projects by requiring fewer components and made accommodations by requiring fewer projects be completed.
@RutgersAltRoute Finding ways to best differentiate my lesson has been one of my biggest challenges. I always follow their IEP or 504 plan and work with case managers or counselors to find a way to best accommodate.
@MMaloney1213@RutgersAltRoute Giving praise and noticing and recognizing improvement is key to a students success. When they feel seen and their abilities are highlighted that can be very impactful for their outcome.
@kimberlyx3___@RutgersAltRoute Celebrating the little moments are just as important as the larger ones too. Modeling how students should behave is also great.
@RutgersAltRoute I like to share kindness by giving students positive feedback and encouragement on their artwork. Always being positive and encouraging is how I try to build empathy in my students.
@KatherineA2414@RutgersAltRoute Yes, seeing how to stand up for yourself or someone else is easier when you actually see it. Having the confidence to stand up and speak out against bullying or any kind of behaviors like that is easier once seen.
@GriffithKhalid@RutgersAltRoute Yes, creating a sense of community where each individual shows up for the other to create a functioning learning environment.
@RutgersAltRoute I think this starts with empathy for all and to not stay silent. I also feel with technology and social media that it’s common not to say anything and to just watch what’s going on. I believe by being empathetic to all is a way to prevent bully and to empower standing up.
