Lace agate, banded chert, druzy and botryoidal quartz at Patty Quarry, Chattooga Co, Summerville, GA.

This chert mine contains agate referred to as Summerville Crazy Lace or Alabama Swirl Agate, usually with grey and red alternating bands.

Pennsylvanian plant fossils in shale at Ross Creek, Grundy Co., TN.

These plants last saw sunlight over 300 million years ago. This location appeared to be mostly Alethopteris, Pecopteris and Sphenopteris ferns and bark from Lepidodendron.

Douglas Diamonds (Quartz) at Douglas Lake, Jefferson Co., TN.

Every year TVA lowers this 30,400 acre lake to catch the spring rains. What's left is a surreal landscape and these sparkling beauties that resemble Herkimer Diamonds.

Almandine garnet fragments in the Nantahala National Forest, Buck Creek, Clay County, NC.

These gemmy beauties really pop in the pan! Most are small, with the largest being 1.14 carat. Some placer gold flakes also showed up.

Almandine garnets in mica chlorite schist, Little Pine Garnet Mine, Madison Co, NC.

Tried a new spot about 10 feet down the side of the tailings and hit some good material! Although most are still in the matrix, should clean up nicely.
