I feel incredibly fortunate to do what I do.
For the past year and a half, I’ve quietly been building the Masquerade alongside @SamSpratt, the lovely @MrsRachelSpratt, and my small team at @niftygateway.
After working on The Monument Game and helping bring the observation experience to Venice, I already knew Sam was a little unhinged (in the best way). But when he first pitched the Masquerade, I realized I had vastly underestimated his capacity for delusion. It was one of the most intricate, mind-bending artistic write-ups I’d ever read. He called it a “modern exegesis,” and I thought, cool, cool…what the fuck is that? My notes were all over the place. It took me a long time to fully wrap my head around where to even begin.
The first few months of this project were filled with an endless stream of whys. Why this structure? Why do you want to do this at all? But I’ve learned that the best projects don’t come with easy answers—just better questions. And the Masquerade has been nothing if not a relentless pursuit of the right ones.
Now, as we bring it to life, it’s been incredible to see the people Players have been inviting into this world—decisions that I know were not made lightly. Web3 is filled with all kinds of characters, but somehow, Sam’s work seems to attract the best of them.
Sam, carrying out your vision may be my burden as your Nifty Producer, but watching them take shape is my privilege. Thank you for trusting us with your delusions. To everyone stepping inside the Masquerade welcome —and strap in. You’re in for one hell of a party.
For the past few years I’ve been growing this project called ‘The Idea Institute’. The premise was to make the creative process more transparent and to see if it’s possible to have a deeper understanding of our imaginations.
I had the opportunity to work with Nifty Gateway, being offered a multi year partnership that could grow and become something fruitful for both parties. Believing they had a long-term vision for the IPs they were building, I jumped in feet first. We officially started working together last March.
During this period I had the pleasure of collaborating with my lead producer Chrisly who couldn’t have been a better collaborator on all fronts. Cindy and Anton were my right hand designers who brought all of the web design and the game interface to life in a ridiculously quick manner. Ashlin was our always reliable product manager, helping relay our wants to the dev team and seeing what was realistic in the timeframe.
Nine months in and we had got to a beta build of the game, an interactive live site, numerous website designs, finished artworks, a generative player ID system and pack system. About a week before the project’s planned release, we were told that the project wasn’t going to go through and that future partnerships were dropped.
It was a deeply disappointing and poorly handled ending to what had otherwise been a meaningful experience. I want to say sorry to everyone who supported the project and was excited for it. The way things ended didn’t reflect the care and effort that everyone put into building it. I am putting the project on the back burner for a while to take time to process and decide on next steps. While this has been a difficult experience, I'm currently working on a few projects I care a lot about, so I can’t ask for much more. Cheers! - Kane
Nifty Gateway is closing after helping give life to a new world.
I am very thankful to the warm people who made our experience special back in 2022. Thank you @chrislymac, @dccockfoster and @rdtothemoon for being a part of Andromeda of Aethiopia.
To our collectors who need to withdraw their art: we view the token as the true certificate of ownership, but for extra permanence, we separately back-up the linked video art across cloned hard drives, multiple countries, cloud services and more.
We are here for digital arts long future, beyond platforms.
Sold Out: Paris Photo
All three minted artworks in the Kibir ክብር collection, each an edition of 5 released with @nguyenwahed for Paris Photo, have found homes with collectors. We are happy to share that it was a mix of fair attendees who usually collect prints, some acquiring their first NFT, and some recognizable collectors from our digital art community.
A big thanks to @miminguyenmimi for believing in this work and contributing an entire booth so guests could immerse themselves in the Yatreda world. I also want to say a big thanks to @redbeardnft for connecting me to Mimi in the very beginning and always helping bring more cherishing eyes to this work.
Thanks to @NinaRoehrs for curating the digital sector at @ParisPhotoFair so the art could be appreciated in its native form. I am so grateful to all the other galleries and artists alongside us.
Appreciation to the collectors we all know:
