@harte34 Absolutely. The quality of experience, and to that measure association depends on the youthworkers. If young people are rejected overtly or covertly, spaces become hostile. The measure of a workers comprehension of the purpose of their conversation is so important
The obsession with buildings as primary in Youthwork ignores that youthwork education comes through purposeful, explorative conversation, enlarging experience, allowing for self reflection and dialogue. Impact is limited to the quality of workers. Invest in people.
@GraemeTiffany@natyouthagency To work safely with two workers, it’s not even minimum wage. The assumption that these communities are swimming in volunteers is wonderfully naive- or maybe they will give it to large youth clubs who generally exclude anyone who is too chaotic and antisocial…
@natyouthagency This is a step in the right direction- but am I getting the maths right- 1million hours, 11million budget. £11 per hour of provision. What is that going to actually cover?
@indigenousmanc Does the money compromise the values in your work? Does it change and distort engagement- and particularly in a community context does it draw you away from young people being central to the work? If the starting point is deeply dehumanising, can you ever reconcile its use?
