A strange trend seems to have emerged about a decade ago: fabricating data maps of Europe for engagement farming. I would go as far as to say that fake data maps may now be more visible than real ones on social media. 🧵

@bernardtjoy Wikipedia has been re-written to refer to him as her, and includes a section on ‘Gender identity’ with a quote from ‘The Last Word’ where he explains his feelings (it was tape-recorded conversations). I assume it’s a real quote but seems a slender hook to hang a re-gendering hat.
