A really relatable new episode with @DubGAAOfficial footballer @S_Carthy8.
Shane’s new book, Dark Blue, is a must read for anyone battling with depression, or who knows someone going through it.
Enjoy the episode ✌️
@DrFiChambers @UCCSSPE@UCCSchoolofEd@UCCWellbeing@UCCSport @UCCAlumDevel Thanks Fiona! We've been neglecting the Twittersphere in favour of Instagram, so I didn't catch this. Hope you're enjoying the show🙏
@franjack81 Hey Francine. Apologies I'm only seeing this now. I'm still not a regular social media user and the podcasts IG page is our primary platform. I'm glad you're listening and I'm glad I can play a small part in alleviating the exhaustion of depression for you. Reach out any time!
@RyanHoliday Even if you open a book rather than your phone at every opportunity, you must structure your day in a way that affords MANY opportunities to read if you’re hitting “hundreds” of books per year and are a slow reader.
How is your day structured to allow for this? You seem busy🤷🏻♂️
@RyanHoliday “A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the ‘why’ for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any ‘how’.” Victor Frankl
Woah, this dragged on! I'll leave you with a provocative quote.
As Mortimer J. Adler wrote:
“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.”
I wish I understood this at 25.
Bye 👋
I've read over 52 books a year for 5 years.
Some years it's closer to 100, but it never dips below 52. I don't count any more as you'll see below, but here's a few things I've learned from my favourite hobby.
A thread👇👇
Reading can become another form of procrastination.
Nothing subsitutes taking action and learning through trial and error. Most "experts" are charlatans who haven't done what they're writing about.
