On the PGA Tour, your iron play in the 175'ish yard range is a very important distance.

If you want to be a top tier player, being a solid iron player at this distance goes a LONG way to getting you there.

So what does it take to be top tier from that 175'ish yard range? Is there a big difference between the best players on the PGA Tour and those that are struggling to keep their card?

Nope. Not at all. The margins between the best and the ones way down the money list are razor thin.

The table below shows the differences between these groups across several stats. You can see just how tight the margins are. These are not huge differences in performance.

For us weekend warriors, we will never perform at this level or proficiency from 175 yards.

Our goal from this distance should be to:
- avoid penalty strokes
- hit the ball relatively solid, advancing it *somewhere* near the green
