This song played in my head when I was in prison after being jailed for exposing massive corruption in Government in Zimbabwe.
I ended up singing it daily, and then one day a prison guard started singing along with me whilst we sat in the library of the B section of one of Africa’s notorious prisons, Chikurubi.
They are not evil people, they helped us a lot to survive the evil that ZANUPF threw at us.
This song is called Free Jah Jah Children (Free God’s Children) by Bunny Wailer, one of the 3 original Wailers that included Bob Marley and Peter Tosh.
When I hear it play, tears roll down as it reminds me of Zimbabwe’s political prisoners, opposition MP Job Sikhala and political activist Jacob Ngarivhume, men who are in prison for fighting corruption and repression!
When it plays when I am in a public place, I leave because of its powerful lyrics that make me feel very emotional about our brothers in jail unfairly and illegally.
This election that we face is not a joking moment, it will decide whether Job Sikhala and Jacob Ngarivhume stay in prison or not, it will decide whether women will continue dying whilst giving birth or not.
It will decide whether millions who are unemployed will get a job or not, it will decide whether you will get clean drinking water in your homes or not.
It will basically decide whether you will have a better life or you will continue drowning in poverty and disease.
This election will decide whether God’s Children will eventually be free at last, or not!
Black people were oppressed by white colonials, but today they remain oppressed, only that this time the oppressor is another Black man!
Whilst we identified Babylon as the evil of white oppression, today Babylon now includes the Black oppressors like ZANUPF.
ZANUPF is more evil than the white oppressors because it is one of our own who is oppressing us!
Free Jah Jah Children Babylon!
