This has been an absolute DREAM project--probably the most creatively invigorating and freeing thing I've ever done (and right on the heels of my #Turandot completion too!). I'm so in my happy place right now. #opera#composer 3/3
I can finally announce this! My first full-length opera 'O'Keeffe: Kiss the Sky', about Georgia O'Keeffe is coming March 2027. It's my second commission from @WashNatOpera and is an innovative fusion of ballet and opera directed by @FZambello 1/3
with a libretto by Kelley Rourke and choreography by Jessica Lang, and it stars an INCREDIBLE cast: @IsabelLeonardNY as Georgia O'Keeffe, @HeldenMommy as Mabel Dodge Luhan, William Burden as Alfred Stieglitz, and conducted by George Manahan. 2/3
For those in Southern California, come join me on 5/31 as I guest conduct the Santa Barbara Choral Society in a set of my most popular pieces, including my music from #Civilization, 'Waloyo Yamoni', and my completion of 'Turandot'.
Due to popular demand, we even added a second concert in the evening. And joining me on stage will be my buddy Jimmer Bolden! The opening half will be Morten Lauridson's 'Lux Aeterna' conducted by Santa Barbara Choral Society's Artistic Director JoAnne Wasserman.
"Iphis", the fourth movement from my choral suite "Transfigurations", with lyrics by Charles Anthony Silvestri. Performed in concert Oct. 5, 2024 by Kantorei (Joel Rinsema, Artistic Director)...
with Alicia Rigsby (piano) Dylan Tyree & David Short (celli), Nicholas Recubar (bass) and Remy Le Boeuf (sop sax). Featured on the Decca Gold album 'Song Offerings: Choral Works by Christopher Tin' now out everywhere! Streaming links in bio, signed vinyl and CDs on my website.
And for those who are wondering, yes, she plays drums (in addition to piano), and yes, she rocks out to *non-simplified* transcriptions of 'Here Comes the Sun' and 'Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and my Monkey'. Yeah, proud papa here. ❤️
Proud papa moment. While the other second graders were doing their Famous Person presentation on the likes of Benjamin Franklin, Barack Obama, and Albert Einstein, my kiddo chose to be... Ringo Starr.
@yuma_kagiyama05 Yuma, it was just so wonderful seeing you skate a clean Turandot at Worlds... not just because of the result, but because it looked like you were truly enjoying yourself in that moment. I hope this next year brings you true joy, skating for nothing else but the love of it.
Those who work with me know that I'm a *huge* fan of the notation software #Dorico, and that I'm constantly singing its praises. Well apparently the news got to @SteinbergMedia because they've invited me to join their artist endorsement roster!
Humbled and flattered that the listeners of @classicfm have voted two of my works into the 2026 ClassicFM Hall of Fame, the largest annual poll of classical radio listener's favorite music. 'The Lost Birds' with @VOCES8 at 19, and my @civilization themes at 165.
Out now! 'Aether & Iron', a new narrative RPG by @SeismicTweets set in an alternate reality 1930s New York. I co-composed the score with my longtime collaborator @alexandertmw--a blend of Romantic classical and noir jazz.
the recording cast of @HeldenMommy, Clay Hilley, the @E_N_O Chorus and @royalphilorch; producers @knowsthescore and Timothy Hsia; and all the donors who made the record possible. Also thanks to Kevin Ng for writing the piece.
My first time in the NY Times! ❤️
... as well as all the other brilliant collaborators on both the original WNO production and recording: librettist @susansoonhe, the original cast of @EwaPlonka, Yonghoon Lee and conductor @speranzascapp; ...
