At the beginning of this year, I had the privilege to work on over 14 VFX shots for a short film #HOST 🎬

This shot proved to be too difficult for the built-in after effects tracker and Mocha tracker. Being that the end product was going to be seen in 5k, the tracking had to be DIALED IN. And the basic AE trackers kept bouncing around a bit. Enter the beast of a tracker, Lockdown 3!

The entire page is rendered using metal and Meek, the engine that also powers the video editor. You can't use SwiftUI for this if you're wondering.
The in and out animation is tracked from an actual video for a more natural feel. The tracking was done in lockdown (AE). I wrote a bunch of custom scripts for getting the mesh into the right format.
Tracking and rotoscoping hands and the background video took by far the longest.
The aspect ratio of the final mesh is adjusted on device for iPad and iPhone to best take advantage of their respective screens.
A shader adds motion blur to the page and some subtle grain to the hand when the video is paused so you don't notice that it's paused.
