My friend, Renu Arora, has just had her Access To Work CUT by 80%.
She has just been commissioned to write a piece about her near-death experience but can't go ahead without her support package in place.
The rhetoric that the government want disabled people to 'get back to work' is cruelly ironic when vital support is being withdrawn, leaving talented artists like Renu unable to take advantage of their creative opportunities.
Please read her words below and sign her petition!
"This project is my life’s work. It is my purpose.
But as an artist who now lives with disability, I cannot work in a vacuum. My access support is the bedrock that allows me to work, to thrive, to create, and to exist in the world.
Facing an 80% cut means the complete dismantling of my team that makes the work possible. I operate at this level of the industry precisely because of them. My RSC history.. My BBC work.. The Burgundy Book - which has just been awarded Arts Council England investment… can only happen because of Access to Work. Take that away, and I cannot work. It takes a full time, deeply dedicated team to make art at this massive scale a reality.
Facing an 80% cut means losing my bridge to the outside world. Without that support, I cannot attend work meetings. I cannot attend appointments. I cannot go to the theatre.
Facing an 80% cut means being entirely housebound. It means being profoundly isolated from the very industry and community I have devoted the last twenty years of my life to.
To have the foundational pillars of support that enable me to do my job and exist at the level of my peers, stripped away so drastically - is terrifying and inhuman. My work is my connection to the world.
It is the reason I came back.
It is purpose.
We cannot let that be taken away. Thank you to everyone standing with me to ensure it isn't.
Please keep signing. Please keep sharing. The world needs to know what is at stake."

Orlando Bloom speaks about the importance of resilience and believing in his abilities, which helped him navigate challenges around dyslexia.
Dyslexia doesn't have to be a barrier to a career in acting, as long as the right support systems/ techniques are in place.
