@BuzzPatterson It started out really bad with Carter as president, “55 mph speed limits, Iran, weakened armed forces, and terrible economy. Reagan was elected and the 80s boomed. Best 8 years until now.
I left college after two years and joined the Navy. Went through nuclear power school for 6 months, essentially the equivalent of at least 2 years of college physics, chemistry, electrical and mechanical engineering. If you could not maintain a 2.8 or higher grade point, you were out of. Then, another 6 months at a nuclear reactor and power plant designed like an air craft carrier or submarine. This verifies that you can apply what you learned in a classroom in a real world environment. Same high standards to pass and then off you go to serve in the real Navy.
There were no social sciences. You had to pass an entrance exam to get in for math, science, and other skills. After 6 years of U.S. Naval Nuclear power plant experience, I went to work at a civilian nuclear power plant 3 days after I left the Navy. It was the best educational experience of my life.
@theamelia__ After you did your chores, you were encouraged to “go play”. Usually you came home for lunch and dinner. But, dark was the deadline for coming home. Your options for playing were pretty dim after dark.
@ksorbs Had both mine replaced 20 years ago. Still skiing, walking at least 5 miles a day. Can’t run or kneel at mass anymore, but I’m feeling good at 71.
