Performed on Top of the Pops in January 1979, Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick became the defining hit for The Blockheads. Released in November 1978 as a standalone single, it reached number one on the UK Singles Chart for one week. Written by Ian Dury and Chas Jankel, the song stood out for its sharp wordplay, funk-driven groove, and Norman Watt-Roy’s distinctive slap bass line. Its success helped push new wave and pub rock into the mainstream, with this era marking the band’s commercial peak.
Britain is a police state.
UK: A British man was arrested at 4am, in front of his cancer-stricken wife, for saying he dislikes seeing Palestinian flags everywhere on social media.
No threat. No violence. Just an opinion.
This isn’t democracy.
This is totalitarianism.
Happy 91st birthday to the multi-talented national treasure, Melvyn Hayes. Melvyn was the first person I ever approached for an autograph. He was playing a fruit machine at York Station sometime in 1983 and he signed the back of one of my school books. He was lovely!
Here he is in a classic scene from It Ain't Half Hot Mum (1974–1981) alongside the great Windsor Davies. I have it on DVD and still watch it often. Every episode's on YouTube, by the way.
God bless Melvyn x
Today the SNP voted down @ScotTories attempts to get a statement on the situation at NHS Fife.
The Presiding Officer has refused every single question seeking to get answers from the SNP.
How can she say there are opportunities to get answers, when every question is rejected?
So, the 3 independent advisers who decided that Neil Gray should not be investigated for his Ministerial Limo football trips, were wined and dined by John Swinney?
The words 'corruption' and 'cover-up' spring to mind.

If you have a spare 5 minutes I urge you all to watch this video.
The Presiding Officer is an absolute disgrace.
She is nothing but an SNP place woman, doing all she can to protect her buddies in the SNP.
Makes Holyrood look like a corrupt cesspit.
As a MSP representing Fife, I will hold off from making detailed comment on the current employment tribunal until the matter is concluded. But what is clear from the evidence thus far is that the reputation of @nhsfife is in the gutter, and management have serious Qs to answer.
Neil Gray lied to parliament.
He is a worse Health Secretary than both Humza Yousaf and Michael Matheson.
He was busy on his phone buying Oasis tickets during a dementia meeting.
His record is appalling.
It's time he was sacked.
When Angela Rayner said on TV that the Southport attack had nothing to do with terrorism, she already knew that it did. She lied to the entire country. Why are we letting these people get away with this?
This is the same guy who was caught out trying to buy Oasis tickets online while chairing a conference session on tackling dementia.
He's got to go.
If he doesn't resign he has to be sacked.
