Four suspects aged 25 to 27 were arrested after a courier van was hijacked on the N2 near Butterworth, Eastern Cape.

The driver was abducted at gunpoint and later released.

A joint effort between private security and the South African Police Service Tactical Response Team tracked down the stolen van and recovered another vehicle with stolen goods.

Two suspects were caught after allegedly trying to file a false hijacking report, while two more were later arrested in the CBD.

Police also seized a pistol, ammunition, suspected stolen property and a signal jamming device.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court soon.
