@jaarosch You've completely lost your mind if you read this entire thread and still concluded that my contention with marriage was that a man is making a woman happy
@jjohnjohnjohnjo@WantedMan156361 Using the failures of liberal feminism to say that there's nothing patriarchal going on here is exactly what i mean when i say we’ve moved past treating validation of choices as the ultimate feminist goal, because we understand that certain choices can absolutely set us back
@jaarosch Men really can't conceive of love that isn't dependent on the labour of women. But even when you try to make it sound ridiculous, you're still right lmao
@WantedMan156361 lil nigga i don't care whether men call themselves feminists or not. Plenty of men who do identify as feminists are still misogynists in private. if relationships depend on the subjugation of women, then yes you’re right, I want it to abolish it
@GallowsTumour That doesn't really address my point. I'm talking about the social script of marriage, not just the legal contract. Divorce being easier doesn't negate what i just said
@WantedMan156361@jjohnjohnjohnjo That’s on you. Many of us have moved passed seeing choice at the ultimate feminist thing a woman can do bc again, choices do not exist in a vacuum
@GallowsTumour I’m South African, but im pretty sure that even in the west, marriage still follows a patriarchal script . It’s still built around male authority and gendered expectations that entrap women into domestic and sexual servitude
@jjohnjohnjohnjo I used "real" loosely to counter the person I was responding to. The point is that feminism that’s too focused on choice can be placated by the illusion of choice. Feminism doesn’t depoliticize desire, that’s why there’s always debates about women’s choices that reinforce patria
@ichigosbanka My view is that, it’s only feminist if the material conditions change . Proposing isn’t doing much work in that context , especially if the man is still going to assume the dominant role and reap the benefits that comes with it.
