I drive an 18 wheeler and with 10 sod manual we down shift . And we never downshift or throw it neutral on a mountain grade! You will have a runaway truck on your hands. With that being said in a car you’re supposed to use both downshifting and neutral. The pros of downshifting is using the engines compression to slow the car and it’s safer and your more in control. The cons is increased clutch usage and transmission wear and tear. The cons with coasting is increased wear and tear on your brakes. The pro is that it’s easier and seamless but less control!
