Sony paid $229 million for Insomniac Games in 2019. The Wolverine game Insomniac is teasing on June 2 cost $305 million to make. A single game now costs more than the entire studio behind it.

We only know that budget because Insomniac was hacked. In December 2023, attackers broke into the studio's servers and dumped over 1.3 million internal files online. They got full access in under 25 minutes. Sony refused to pay the $2 million ransom, so a decade of plans ended up on the open internet.

The leaked contract between Sony and Marvel commits Insomniac to three X-Men games by 2035, with total spending of up to $621 million. Each game gets $120 million to build and $30 million to market. There's also a kill switch baked into the deal. If Wolverine sells fewer than 6 million copies in its first year, Marvel or Sony can cancel the whole trilogy.

Spider-Man 2, Insomniac's last big release, cost about $300 million to make and needed to sell 7.2 million full-price copies just to break even. As of late 2023, it had sold 6.1 million. An internal memo from the same leak warned that future big-budget games need to stay under $350 million, or the studio starts losing money on every game it ships.

The original Wolverine release date was September 1, 2025. It now ships September 15, 2026, more than a year late. In 2024, creative director Brian Horton left for Xbox after years running Insomniac's Marvel games. Game director Cameron Christian was reassigned. Marcus Smith and Mike Daly, two veteran Insomniac directors, took over the team.

On June 2, Sony will livestream the first real look at Wolverine in over four years. Grand Theft Auto 6 was just pushed to November 19, leaving Wolverine the only major game launch of the 2026 holiday season. But the game still has to sell 6 million copies by September 2027, or the next two X-Men games never get made.

Júlia Pimentel is 11. She just became the youngest person ever published in Brazil's main math teaching journal. The trick she came up with for finding square roots in seconds is older than the Pythagorean theorem.

In math class, she spotted the pattern. Take the square root of 144. Start with 10 times 10, which is 100. Add 10 plus 11, and you reach 121, which is 11 times 11. Add 11 plus 12, and you reach 144, which is 12 times 12. So the answer is 12. She realized every square is the one before it plus the two numbers you just added.

Her teacher, Frederico Ferreira, was impressed enough to write the method up. He sent it to Revista do Professor de Matemática, the Brazilian Math Society's main teaching journal. They published it in September 2023. Júlia became the youngest author in the journal's 44-year history.

The same trick was already in use 2,500 years ago. The followers of Pythagoras in ancient Greece would lay out pebbles in the shape of a square, and to make the next bigger square, they added an L-shaped layer around the outside. They called this L-shape a "gnomon," Greek for "carpenter's square." Each gnomon contains the next odd number of pebbles: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. It's the exact pattern Júlia spotted at her desk 2,500 years later, only she used numbers instead of pebbles. Fibonacci wrote about it in 1225, and the pattern sits in school textbooks today.

What she did on her own at 11 puts her in good company. Carl Friedrich Gauss is famous for adding the numbers 1 to 100 in his head at age 9 by spotting a shortcut. The shortcut was already centuries old. Ramanujan rediscovered hundreds of known results while teaching himself math from a single textbook in colonial India. We tell those stories because spotting a pattern nobody pointed out to you is what doing math actually feels like.

Most kids stop asking why by middle school. Júlia kept asking, and now her name is in the journal.

-Not be less than 18 years of age or above 70 years.

-Have completed driving school training and certified (Having attended a certified driving school and complete 26 sessions of driver's training).

-Print out the completed application form and generate payment code.

-Make payments of prescribed fee at designated banks.

-Note that online payment is possible in some states

-Register payment with the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR)/Motor Licensing Authority (MLA).

-Present self for testing (with relevant documents) to a testing Officer.

-Present Certificate of Visual Acuity Test to testing Officer.

-Ensure that testing Officer approves the application showing class of licence.

-Proceed to Driver Licence Center (DLC) for biometric capture.

-Obtain a temporary licence issued by DLC which expires after 90 days.

-Return to check if the printed licence is ready.

Unsuccessful applicant is allowed one month to improve knowledge and skil and represent self for re-evaluation

However, a message could be sent to the applicant to pick up the licence before the 90 days expiration.
