📰 ARTICLE | JAMES’ VOGUE MAN KOREA PHOTOSHOOT AND THE RISE OF GENDER-FLUID FASHION 📰
In a recent article about key menswear trends at Women's Fashion Week, Vogue mentioned James as an example of how fashion is changing:
“One thing all Vogue editors agreed on while working on the first Vogue Man Korea feature with James was that the line between ‘men’s clothing’ and ‘women’s clothing’ is becoming increasingly blurred. It is not hard to find runway looks that blend masculinity and femininity, combining elegance with a bold and edgy touch.”
James’ appearance in androgynous outfits for Vogue Man Korea has become a reference point for the rise of genderless and gender-fluid fashion. This is also a style that more designers and fashion editors are paying attention to as it continues to gain recognition in the fashion world.
What makes James special, however, is that he expresses this idea not only through the clothes he wears, but also through the way he presents himself. Rather than trying to fit into traditional ideas of masculinity, James is comfortable embracing his feminine side.
As a dancer and choreographer, he is never afraid to perform moves that are often seen as more feminine. Fans are already familiar with James doing feminine dance moves in ILLIT’s Magnetic and Cherish. When asked “What’s the man version?” during the Pinky Up dance challenge with KATSEYE, he simply replied, “We don't need a man version.”
In his latest interview with Teen Vogue, James shared, “The more you're secured with your masculinity, the more you can open up.” This mindset helps explain how comfortable and open he is when expressing different sides of himself, even when they go beyond traditional expectations and social stereotypes. Masculinity does not have to be the opposite of femininity. Both can exist within the same person without contradicting each other.
Vogue’s article not only highlights James’ versatile style and fashion potential, but also reflects the way he lives his life. To us, what makes him truly special is that he never feels the need to hold back from doing what he loves just because it does not fit into traditional norms.
