I NEEDED an endometrial biopsy.
I was bleeding for months. Passing clots the size of my palm. Fainting at work. Iron levels in the basement.
Doctor looked at my chart and said:
“You’re only 27.”
“Pain is normal for women.”
“Have you tried losing weight?”
“Sometimes women exaggerate cramps.”
“What if this is just stress?”
I said I can’t function. I can’t stand up without seeing stars. I’m scared.
He said:
“Let’s not jump to invasive procedures.”
“What if you want kids soon?”
“A biopsy can cause scarring.”
“You don’t want to risk fertility over heavy periods.”
Heavy periods.
Not hemorrhaging.
Not anemia.
Not collapsing in the shower.
Heavy periods.
He offered birth control for the fourth time.
I said, “I don’t care about preserving fertility. I care about not blacking out.”
He paused.
“Have you discussed that with your partner?”
So I brought him.
Doctor to him:
“Are you okay if she can’t have children?”
“You’re young. You might want a family.”
“Would that be a dealbreaker?”
Him:
“She needs to stop bleeding. That’s the only family planning we’re discussing.”
Suddenly the biopsy was scheduled.
Pathology came back: precancerous cells.
But sure.
Let’s center hypothetical babies and imaginary men while a woman is actively deteriorating in front of you.
Misogyny in medicine isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it’s just asking a dying woman if a man might want kids someday.
someone once told me something along the lines of “you’ve gotta do your best everyday, but remember that your best is going to look different every day”. & it’s one of the most healing things i’ve heard to this day be it reminds me not to put too much pressure on myself.
aerie is the first big company that i’ve seen formally state that they won’t use ai-generated imagery. it’s one of their most engaged posts with 33k likes.
In med school, I learned that Huntington's disease was one of the most devastating inherited conditions. It caused progressive neurological decline, starting around age 30. There was no treatment. Now, Huntington's has been treated for first time.
This is why we fund science.
For MAGAs who don’t understand the constitution.
1. A judge cannot overturn a law as written.
2. An executive order is not a law.
3. A president cannot create a law without Congress.
So a judge has every right to overturn an EO if it’s found to be unconstitutional.
75% of immigrant farm workers didn’t show up yesterday in Bakersfield because of fears of ICE raids under the new presidency.
America’s rural and agricultural regions will be the hardest hit from Trump’s immigration policies. Food prices are going to skyrocket.
It took several days to count every ballot in 2020, and it’s very likely we won’t know the outcome tonight either. So please keep a few things in mind as you make your voice heard today:
– Thousands of election workers around the country are working hard today. Respect them. Thank them.
– Don’t share things before checking your sources.
– Let the process run its course. It takes time to count every ballot.
Some people seem to have forgotten how bad a president Trump was, so I made a list of the 100 Worst Things About the Trump Presidency, in no particular order. Please share and add anything I missed. 🧵
I graduated college at 22. Married at 23. Master’s degree at 24. 1st child born at 25. Started law school at 26. 2nd child born at 28. Graduated law school at 29, 3rd child born at 30. 4th child born at 35. “Young lady,” don’t listen to this man. There’s nothing we can’t do.
ppl think i’m naive because i move with pure intentions and y’all aren’t used to that.
kindness is not weakness. i would argue it takes more strength to show love—even in trying times—than it does to be hateful.
you let this world snuff your light and that’s a shame.
I just saw a TikTok that basically said women don’t have maternity leave in America because companies like Nestle lobby against those laws cause their profits for baby formula would tank as mothers would be home to breastfeed their kids 😬
