Ever wonder why some cigars are expensive and why others are cheap?
Think of a cigar tobacco plant like a tall apartment building with leaves stacked from bottom to top. The position on the stalk (called "primings") dramatically changes what each leaf tastes like, how strong it is, and how it burns. Higher = better sun exposure = more power and flavor. Here's the layman's breakdown:

Bottom Leaves (Volado – "Flyers" or fliers)These are the lowest ones, closest to the ground.
They get the least sunlight, so they're thinner, lighter in color, and milder.
Flavor: Very subtle or almost none — not much "wow" factor.
Job: They burn easily and evenly, like kindling in a fire. Blenders add them so your cigar doesn't go out or burn unevenly.
Think: Basic white bread. It holds everything together but doesn't excite your taste buds.

Middle Leaves (Seco + Viso)Seco (middle-lower): More sun than the bottom, so a bit more flavor and aroma. Still mild-to-medium, great for smell and smoothness.
Viso (higher middle): Thicker, oilier, with more complexity and balance. Bridges mild and strong.
Flavor: Nuanced — floral, woody, or subtle spices. They add elegance without overwhelming.
These give the cigar its "middle notes," like the harmony in music.

Top Leaves (Ligero – "Light" or heavy in strength)Highest on the plant, closest to the sun.
They soak up maximum sunlight, nutrients, and energy from the roots (nicotine flows upward).
Why top-tier?Thicker, darker, oilier leaves packed with natural compounds.
Slower to mature and cure — takes more time and care.
Flavor: Bold, rich, complex — earth, pepper, chocolate, leather, sweetness, strength. They deliver the "punch" and depth that premium cigars are known for.
Stronger nicotine hit and slower burn (good for long smokes, but needs balancing).

Simple analogy: Imagine the plant as a factory pushing flavor upward. Bottom leaves are entry-level workers (cheap, basic, burn fast). Top leaves are the master craftsmen who've absorbed all the good stuff — sunlight = premium ingredients, time = aging potential. That's why Ligero costs more and makes expensive cigars taste layered and powerful instead of one-note.

Blenders mix them like a chef: some Volado for the burn, Seco/Viso for aroma and balance, and Ligero for the soul and strength. More top leaves = fuller, more expensive experience. Your palate notices it right away!
While I'm smoking this Davidoff Royal release robusto. Makes me think back to my starting journey on smoking cigars. I used to think I would never buy a cigar over $40. I'm so glad I broke my own rule and starting smoking the best. Life's too short for rules on spending limits.
morale of the story is that I don't regret anything Ive done I just regret the things I haven't done.I realized this once I became aware of everything I have is not mine,Im only using it while I'm here. So enjoy urselfs my friends, life's too short to tell urself you cant affordit
Little story: I was drinking beers, my brother-in-law told me here they have a six pack for $100. I said what jackass would buy a six pack for that. I asked about it and got told nope, it's $100 for 1 beer! I became that jackass and bought 1. It was the best beer I ever had...
It was an Air Whale hell beer from Alaska brewing company out of Anchorage, Alaska. I loved it so much I went back the next day and bought all of the ones they had there was 8. I brought them to a family reunion and had family try shots of it . All but two hated it...
@Cigaro556 Nice! They are the best in my opinion. Looking forward to you giving your review on how they aged when you finally smoke one. I used to think the Padron 60th anniversary Perfecto were.
Smoking this David off Royal release robusto this morning. This cigar is phenomenal, and well deserving of being my last smoke. I may smoke one cigar a year but for the everyday smoking I won't be doing it anymore. Here is the ash produced on this last one
Decided to smoke my last cigar this morning instead of last night, A Davidoff royal release robusto. The reason I didn't smoke it last night cause after smoking the davidoff Salomone in the afternoon I was in a euphoria state the whole evening. This Robusto is amazing from start
@lindakcigars $165 Davidoff Royal Release Salomone and the $132 Davidoff Royal Release Robusto I'm smoking right now. No need to age cause davidoff already took the care to do the patient work themselves. Anyone can go to my page and see my reviews of my smoking history.
