Congrats to Coach Pace and Amory. We spoke with him after several games this year and he was always quick to praise his players and coaches. We think he did a great job keeping his squad focused all year, too. This is what he said after todays state title win.
“We had all the time in the world to shut it down all year long. We were 15-1 and got hit by a tornado...They could have shut it down, but they didn't. They picked me up. They made me a better person. This team is special...We had to do a lot of extra stuff to get to this point...I'm blessed with four fabulous assistant coaches. And a head coach is only as good as it's assistants.”
Amory is headed to play for a state title. Coach Chris Pace said climbing to the top of the mountain isn’t the hard part. The hard part is staying on top of the mountain. So far, the Amory Panthers have done that despite dealing with tornado on March 24 that decimated the team’s baseball field and almost wrecked their season. He said things are getting back to normal, but with this win, the Amory Community isn’t thinking about that right now…
Sports can pull a community together after a disaster. Look no further than Amory for an example of that.
The Amory baseball team hasn’t played a home game since March 25th when a devastating tornado tore their field apart. On Wednesday night, the Panthers took a 1-0 series lead in their North Half series against Kossuth. They are one win away from playing for a state title.
Amory Head Coach Chris Pace knows the approach his team is taking and how they are playing.
"With what they've been through, they've lost everything. We have nothing to lose."
Amory Senior Bryce Glenn came to the plate in the bottom of the 7th with that nothing to lose attitude and he hit the homer to give his team the win. It was his first ever career walk off homerun.
He too knows what his team is playing for and the determination they have shown.
“It continues to show what we’ve all been through. The continuous fight that is in these guys and this team….it’s gonna be hard to beat.”
Bryce Glenn had never hit a walk-off HR...What a time to get his first one. Here is our interview with the Amory Senior.
“It continues to show what we’ve all been through. The continuous fight that is in these guys and this team….it’s gonna be hard to beat.”
John Rhys Plumlee’s day today was INSANE.
He played in UCF’s 5pm home baseball game vs Memphis. Goes 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBIs. UCF wins 12-3.
He then leaves the game in 7th inning, sprints out of the stadium & is escorted in golf cart to the football stadium to play in the @UCF_Football Spring Game at 7:30. Throws 2+ TDs. WILD.
@PlumleeJohn is one of the best stories in college sports.
So many amazing stories of Mississippians stepping up in the face of tragedy.
For the last week, Amory's athletes have spent their time working on roofs and moving debris. Now they got the chance to take the field again...
