🚨 'We are not Sri Lankan': Students across Britain and Canada back Maitreyi

Fifteen Canadian Tamil student associations and the Tamil Youth Organization Canada have issued a joint statement backing the Netflix actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan after she was targeted over her Eelam Tamil identity. "We reject any identity imposed on us, and we affirm the right of every Tamil to name who they are, with pride and without apology."

A second statement, signed by 11 Tamil youth organisations, 27 student unions and two diaspora networks, drew in Tamil societies from LSE, Imperial, King's, UCL, Cambridge, Warwick and dozens more, alongside branches across Europe and New Zealand.
