In the past, they gave us "bread and circuses." Now we get fast food and apps. But it's the same — distraction from what's really happening.

@EqualizerSoccer@TheDanLauletta Thanks for pointing out the delay issue on match replays. It's been bad for years on NWSL+, and I was hoping it might be better with Victory+ ... maybe not? 😠
@ClimateBen Judd's remark about the "the bounds of habitability" is referring to ALL life, not human life. She adds: “As long as one or two organisms survive, there will always be life. I’m not concerned about that. My concern is what human life looks like. What it means to survive.”
Twitter / X is an extreme alt-right platform. Musk is pointing users to MAGA and banning support for Kamala Harris.
If you still post regularly here, ask yourself, is it really worth it?
ready to individually fight the #Jeopardy judges for ruling “Bridalveil Falls” wrong because of the extra “s” that was not germane to the clue. being pedantic to that degree is disgusting and negatively affects the game.
@deepfocuslens The one movie I can't understand all the love for is "12 Angry Men." Not that it's a bad movie; it's a good movie. But it is NOT one of the best movies ever made. Not even close. I mean, it's basically a filmed stage play. There's almost nothing cinematic about it.
@JessicaBerman1@SBJ@WomenSportsTech@justwsports@alexisohanian Better data is crucial for fan engagement. Occasionally an announcer on a broadcast will mention the game's current xG (expected goals), but that number is never displayed in the stats posted on-screen. Can't be that hard to do -- #NWSL should demand it of their media partners!
I really enjoyed and appreciated The Deluge, by Stephen Markley. It is a truly epic novel, encompassing multiple perspectives, offering a premonition of our environmental future. Wonderfully written and fully realized. Give it a read.

@DrJamesEHansen I'm being cynical here but I guess a lot of careers depend on making people think that these 1.5 & 2C targets are still alive, that a vast deployment of so-called #renewables will keep us within them, that fundamental social-political transformations incl. #degrowth aren't needed
@ClimateDad77 "an endless conveyor belt of celebrity, fast fashion, fast food, cheap tech, massive cars & foreign holidays" -- sometimes known as Bread and Circuses. 😉
@EliotJacobson I'm wondering if increased methane from warming tundra and melting permafrost, along with a pulse of CO2 from those huge Canadian wildfires, might also have contributed.
@ayanaeliza Sorry, but that's #greenwashing. If Biden wanted to make a real difference, he would use his Presidential power to declare a climate emergency and cancel all existing and planned fossil fuel expansion projects.
It is imperative that we call out the false seduction of endless #growth wherever we encounter it.
To that end, myself and @xriskology have published a critique of William MacAskill's 'What We Owe the Future' with @Perspecteeva.

@EliotJacobson A decline in the rate of increase for CO2 is an improvement, obviously, although it's still not what we need (which is swift reduction). And anyway, the benefits of that gradual change could well be offset by the current sharp rise in methane emissions.
@NWSL@ThornsFC But we couldn't watch the game on crappy #ParamountPlus thanks to "technical issues." Their whole season of problems has been a disgrace.
Please, #NWSL, you **must** do better with the broadcast package next year!!
I miss you, and I have enjoyed our years together more than I can say.
However, everything here has Eel on it and I can't tolerate it.
I'm over on the extinct elephant full time.
Same username, same bullshit threads, address at @spore.social which is an elephant "instance."
