The report showing public money being funnelled to the private sector while the public sector is starved is exactly what Simeon Brown tried to hide in an OIA release last year.

So it turns out Chantelle Baker has received money from Harry Mowbray to promote Split-Vote Strategy nonsense
Chantelle Baker has received money to boost posts promoting the split-vote strategy targeting New Zealand’s election, according to Harry Mowbray. Mowbray has previously acknowledged giving the fringe micro-blogger funding to boost her posts after asking her to focus on marginal electorates.
“I have given her a little bit of money,” he said according to news reports. The amount was not disclosed, and it remains unclear which posts received paid promotion.
The strategy encourages National supporters to give their electorate vote to National candidates while directing their party vote to ACT or New Zealand First, potentially producing extra parliamentary seats through an MMP overhang. Mowbray said he had helped fund promotion by podcaster Penny Marie and contributed to a campaign run by Reality Check Radio. The disclosures come as Mowbray faces questions over compliance with election advertising rules. He has said the Electoral Commission told him his Split Your Vote website breached the Electoral Act and indicated that an investigation may be under way.
The Commission’s rules require promoter statements on election advertisements, while paid political advertising is not exempt as personal online commentary.
No finding of wrongdoing against Baker has been established.

Shane Te Pou – Labour’s rent-to-buy housing policy is a game changer
Let me be straight. Labour’s new rent-to-buy policy isn’t the complete answer to our housing crisis. No single policy is. But it works, and it makes it much easier for people who would never have been able to buy a house to actually buy one. That matters.
A few weeks ago I wrote here about being a millhouse kid. We never owned a single plank of that whare, but we knew we’d still be there next year, and that gave us roots. I finished that column with a challenge to every party heading into this election: don’t just tell us how many houses you’ll build, tell us who they’re for and how long they’ll get to stay.
Last week, Labour didn’t give us the whole answer, but it gave us a credible pathway to home ownership and security.

Tim Selwyn – Voter Suppression, No confidence in the Chief Electoral Officer and a Hung Parliament
The NZ Electoral Commission’s Chief Electoral Officer Karl Le Quesne should have been sacked for his disastrous performance running the 2023 general election. The count dragged out because he totally underestimated the predictable late voting surge. The NZ Herald then identified three errors in the final officially certified results that he had put his name to. And that’s the moment his incompetence began undermining the integrity of the democratic system and we can’t look away and pretend he isn’t the problem.
He’s still there to fuck up this election too. How can the MPs – let alone the voters – have any confidence in this guy? I do not understand how truly useless the MPs must be to keep him in a position of such responsibility. Le Quesne is the Wellingtardian PMC phenotype that allows men of an ashen, monotonal persuasion to fail ever upward.

Alt Right Political Scientist Dr Bryce Edwards justifies disenfranchising 300 000 voters while peddling Government falsehoods
Labour’s same day voting did in no way shape or form justify wiping 14 days worth of enrolment and who cares about the voter rules of other democracies, we have a unique and progressive and liberal view of universal suffrage BECAUSE WE WERE THE FIRST FUCKING COUNTRY THAT HAD UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE!

NZFirst cosplaying Pete Hegseth’s anti-diversity warrior culture war performance
…groan.
Look.
NZ First have adopted everything from Trump’s MAGA cult.
Anti-immigration, culture war grievance, Make NZ Healthy Again, drill baby drill, all Temu Trump knock offs by Winston and Shane, but this new shtick of blaming the sinking of the Manawanui on a woman driver appointed beyond her capability is just such eye rolling bullshit.
Our very own blogger Tim Selwyn covered the Manawanui sinking probably better than the mainstream media and his blogs remain the standard.
It’s very obvious that the sinking of the Manawanui was because of a culture of gross incompetence manufactured by appalling under funding sunk the Manawanui, not the promotion of a woman captain!
