It manifests itself in stolen elections and military operations against your own people. We also saw it at PIMS, where 14 infants burned to death and were forgotten within a week, and now again, in the tragedy of a gold medalist taking her own life. It wasn't just the scam that took her life; it was the loss of hope that she'd ever get justice.

Hell is not a place of pain and misery in the hereafter; it is a place right here and now, where we don’t feel anything anymore.

What breaks my heart is that even after being cheated, she was more worried about what the truth would do to her father than what had been done to her. اسلام آباد میں کل ایک دردناک واقعہ پیش آیا، اسلامک یونیورسٹی کی طالبہ کی زندگی ایک نوسرباز ایجنٹ کی بھینٹ چڑھ گئی، خبر کے مطابق جی ٹین سیکٹر کی رہائشی طالبہ اعلیٰ تعلیم کیلئے امریکہ جانا چاہتی تھی، ایک ایجنٹ کو 50 لاکھ روپے دیئے کہ دستاویزات تیار کر دو، ایجنٹ نے جعلی دستاویزات تھما کر اُس لڑکی کے خواب چکنا چور کر دیئے، شدید ذہنی دبائو نے لڑکی کو انتہائی قدم اٹھانے پر مجبور کر دیا اور اُس نے اتوار بازار کے قریب درخت کے ساتھ اپنے ہی دوپٹے کو پھندہ بنایا اور اُس کے ساتھ جھول گئی، بتایا جا رہا ہے کہ طالبہ نے بی ایس کیا تھا اور اب ہاورڈ یونیورسٹی سے ایم ایس کرنے کی خواہشمند تھی، آہ، ماں باپ کی کُل کمائی، چاہے وہ رقم تھی یا بیٹی کی شکل میں اُمید، سب ختم ہو گیا، ایک معصوم جان چلی گئی، ذمے دار کون ہے؟، اِن نوسرباز ایجنٹوں کو کون لگام ڈالے گا؟، جہاں یہ پاکستانی حکومت کیلئے ایک ٹیسٹ کیس بن گیا ہے، وہیں امریکی سفارتخانے کو بھی چاہئے کہ وہ امریکہ میں پڑھنے کے خواہشمند پاکستانی طلبہ کیلئے اسٹوڈنٹ ویزہ پراسس کو اتنا آسان بنا دے کہ طلبہ ایسے فراڈیئے ایجنٹوں کے چنگل میں نہ آ سکیں اور اپنی زندگیاں یوں درختوں سے لٹک کر ختم نہ کریں، وہ خود دستاویزات کی تیاری باآسانی کر سکیں اور ویزہ کیس خود اپلائی کر سکیں، اللہ اُس لڑکی کو غریقِ رحمت کرے اور اُس کے ماں باپ کو صبر دے۔

Currently, my Aunties are still abducted. Family and lawyers have received no update on how they are, nor why they are incarcerated. Concerning my father, there is complete silence.

My brother and I have had no contact with him for more than six months. We do not even know the true state of his health.

Meanwhile, thousands of Pakistanis are peacefully taking to the streets to protest against his illegal and politically motivated imprisonment.

However, the people of Pakistan have not given up. No barricade, intimidation or repression can muzzle the people’s demand for justice and their democratic right to be heard.

There can be no lasting peace or stability while their democratic will is suppressed and their chosen leader remains behind bars.

The World Bank has today reported that Pakistan is home to nearly half of the poorest people living in the MENAAP region, which is the only region in the world where poverty remains above pre-pandemic levels. Just to be clear, in a region that includes Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Libya, Lebanon and Pakistan Army’s new enemies, Yemen and Afghanistan, it is PAKISTAN that is the primary driver of extreme poverty.

Now remember that the man who has presided over this economic debacle recently took not one, but two, aircraft to London on a 9-day private visit. PM @CMShehbaz did not just take along a 40-member official entourage, he also offered a free ride to his son Suleman Shehbaz and his family. The 40-member official entourage stayed 9 days at Churchill Hotel in one of London’s most expensive areas.

The PM had ostensibly left Pakistan on 17 September to attend the UN General Assembly in New York. He returned to Pakistan on 29 September. In between he spent more days in London (9) than he did in New York (4). His only “official” engagement in London came on the ninth and last day of his stay when he met the Rothschilds and celebrated...wait for it...yet more money that Pakistan had BORROWED from the international bond markets at the London stock exchange (at the junk bond rates of 7.5% to 8.5%).

Even if you knew nothing about the Form 47 elections in 2024 or the fact that Mr. Sharif is the civilian figurehead of the most despised military regime in Pakistan’s history (no mean achievement in itself!), the PM’s own conduct leaves nothing to the imagination. He doesn’t give a flying f*** about what all this looks like because he knows he is not answerable to the people of Pakistan.

In any country, leave alone a debt-ridden economic basket case like Pakistan, the prime minister’s all expenses-paid 9-day holiday in London along with family and hangers-on would have been a national scandal.

Pakistan is home to "about 48 percent" of the extreme poor in a region stretching from Morocco to Afghanistan. That is the World Bank's verdict in its October 2026 MENAAP Economic Update, and it indicts every government Pakistan has had since 2018.

Between 2018/19 and 2024/25, Pakistan's $3-a-day poverty rate rose by 6.4 percentage points. Of all the World Bank's regions, the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan is "the only region in which poverty remains above pre-pandemic levels." The Bank says the increase "was driven primarily by a rise in poverty in Pakistan."

This happened while the economy grew. The Bank expects real GDP per capita to "rise further above 2019 levels." When output grows and poverty rises anyway, that is not bad luck. The system is rigged. The gains go to the top, and the bottom pays for the adjustment: inflation reached "about 11 percent by midyear" and petrol prices rose "40 percent or higher."

The protected business class barely innovates. Only 3 percent of Pakistani firms report product innovation and 1 percent process innovation, "against a lower-middle-income peer average of 23 percent and 14 percent." Firms that profit from protection and patronage don't need to.

Islamabad talks of "AI sovereignty," yet "only half of grade 5 students in Pakistan can read a simple story in Pashto, Sindhi, or Urdu."
