Born into slavery in Maryland in 1818, Frederick Douglass never knew his birthday. Remembering his mother once called him "Little Valentine," he later chose to celebrate his birth on Valentine's Day. February was chosen as #BlackHistoryMonth in part to honor Douglass & Lincoln.
