The thing is, I can understand that other group’s PR manager. I would have looked at that balcony, looked at the crowd, looked at the footage from BTS’ May visit, and said “Abso-fucking-lutely NOT. Get back in the blackout tinted cars! We’re gonna say you were never here.”

This isn’t even me being petty. This is basic reputation management. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your artists is recognise when a particular visual is going to do them absolutely no favours and keep them the fuck away from it.

You do not voluntarily recreate a moment where the comparison with BTS is going to be this PAINFULLY and frankly EMBARRASSINGLY obvious. That is not setting your artists up for success. That is setting them up to become a meme.

In 2013, BTS thanked the 33 people who turned up to a fanmeet.

That same instinct was clear in 2016. After showrunners ended the show and cut their performance from the live broadcast, BTS knew ARMY had come to see them and that many had stayed. They climbed onto the confetti covered stage and performed for those who remained, thanking them for their support despite the circumstances.

In 2019, after a prerecording for end of year shows in freezing temperatures, they unexpectedly returned to the stage to thank ARMY in person for turning up at the butt crack of dawn and enduring the weather for them.

In 2026, even for five minutes, they stood on a balcony to greet and thank ARMY, who had learned only several hours earlier that same day that they would be visiting the Presidential Palace.

That consistency is the point.

The size of the crowd has never mattered. Whether it was 33 people at a fanmeet, ARMY who stayed after a broadcast ended, ARMY waiting in freezing temperatures, or tens of thousands filling a plaza, BTS have always made time for the people who show up for them.

They show up for us because they know we show up for them. 💜

“Hey, what's up guys? Uhm... Just want to take a minute and address some of the things I said this week about BTS and BTS ARMY.

Look, I got Jungkook's name wrong. Dead wrong. In hindsight, I should have taken a couple seconds to make sure I knew how to pronounce his name. I didn't. I got that wrong. And so I'm sincerely apologizing to Jungkook for that. No, no offense intended, but to the BTS ARMY, look man, I did get defensive. I said some things I shouldn't have. And again, that's on me. I did get caught up in the moment. And so for that I apologize.

And whatever you think about what I said, I mean, you can't argue with what BTS has accomplished. I mean, look at this, man. They're one of the biggest groups in the world. They've built this massive global community, and that's an incredible thing.

Uhm... I just should have handled the whole thing better, and that is on me. But the truth is, man, the passion that the BTS Army has for the guys, it's incredible, man. You work around music. You see it, It's really rare to have this kind of connection. With the fans and I certainly appreciate that passion and where it comes from.

So that's why I got appreciate you hearing me out. Thanks.”
