I believe that it is extremely disappointing and alarming to see that American-American student-athletes in collegiate athletes are not supported or given the same academic opportunities as their white peers. @abhornUCRedu#ucr150
Collegiate athletes are labeled as amateurs so that the NCAA can continue to profit and not have to pay players. The term is used as a business tactic and as a way to keep its tie to their academic institution. #ucr150@annaaacha
Do you think that it is okay for the NCCA to have consequences for transferring? Should they should feel pressured or obligated to stay in an environment that they do not feel is right for them in order to avoid the consequences? #ucr150@annaaacha
I personally think the NCAA has to implement more restrictions and requirements when a player recovering from a concussion is returning to their sport. Concussions are a serious matter and can cause life long damages if they are not treated properly.
#ucr150@annaaacha
Title IX was created to create equality within men and womenβs sports. Thought Title IX prohibits discrimination by gender we still see inequality in athletics especially in representation. What do you think could help bring more equality? @annaaacha#ucr150
Do you believe that the National Letter of Intent puts more stress on athletes or do you believe it is more beneficial to them because they have a legal documentation and commitment to an institution. @annaaacha#ucr150
College athletes are seen as amateurs by the NCAA so they are not compensated for their time and talent. Is it fair that athletes are struggling financially even though many hours and effort is put into their sports while institutions make gains on their success?#ucr150@annnaacha
Something that I found interesting was that college athletes often times get stereotyped and mistreated even though they bring a lot of attention and revenue to their institutions. @annnaacha #ucr150
@EddieComeaux@UCLALawReview@DrUJayakumar In my opinion it wasnβt shocking to read that institutions like Harvard find ways to enroll more affluent white student athletes. The use of these discriminatory practices are to gain revenue rather than increasing the institutional diversity. #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@trinbans @KatryaLy Yes Trinity, I agree with you. I think that colleges that continually benefit affluent white student disregard minorities. Do you think a fair and beneficial system for admissions is possible? @abhornUCRedu
@sanvyopop@abhornUCRedu Yes, I agree ! Students should be admitted first what they offer the institution and what is going to better their future instead on their background and race. @abhornUCRedu
Was it surprising to see that there was a difference in how white athletes are treated and given privileges compared to minority athletes? If so what stood out to you? #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@halba011@k1mber1yperez@KatryaLy@abhornUCRedu Yes I completely agree student athletes have many boundaries set in front of them. They are used for their talent but then give restrictions. What are some ways you think we can help support the rights of student athletes? #ucr50@abhornUCRedu
@jayyrojas24@TA_ED50 Yes Jailim I agree ! I think that the amount of time it took for the act to be implemented and what it may have been for women who wanted to pursue athletics. @abhornUCRedu#ucr50
@jmart758@TA_ED50 I think that Title IX has had a positive impact in colleges sports. But I do see how in some aspects womenβs collegiate sports seem inferior such as in media coverage and resources. @abhornUCRedu#ucr50
@GigiDuarte_7@KatryaLy I agree. I believe that educators should not but a bias on a student just because they have a talent. It is very difficult to be a college athlete and they should not look down on them academically. @abhornUCRedu#UCR50
