IMHO, a lot of conservatives are missing the Biblical forest for the woke trees in Nolan's Odyssey. Yes, the casting of Elliot Page is silly and egregious. But here's the thing: Nolan's "The Odyssey" is an apologia for Christian morality poured into a Greek vase.
The entire movie is rooted in what Nolan terms "Zeus' law." That law is: "Treat others as you would want to be treated, because anyone might be a god." Now, clearly, there's nothing like that in Greek mythology. It's not implicit in Homer. It's a direct rip from Biblical morality, substituting "because anyone might be a god" for "because man was made in the image of God."
Nolan then takes this rule and uses it as his moral glue: the idea is that Odysseus, in utilizing the Trojan Horse, violated Zeus' law and led to full-scale slaughter. That sin has led to the unleashing of broader globalized sin (the "sea peoples" who don't respect Zeus' law and are invading surrounding areas). This is a highly Biblical message: that sin is infectious, and that sin also affects the world at large, not just the sinner.
Odysseus has sinned, and he must atone for that sin through self-imposed exile. He must also sacrifice his own aspirations to restore the possibility of a moral universe: because he has unleashed catastrophic violence and violation of Zeus' law -- manifest in the suitors' cynical use of Zeus' law to eat Penelope out of house and home -- he must violate Zeus' law one last time and then accept the penalty, which is exile.
This is a not only a movie that will make millions of people go read classical literature again. It also reinforces the idea that violation of the Golden Rule has disastrous consequences.
I dunno. I'd consider that, on balance, a large-scale win for civilizational values, when weighed against the woke casting of Elliot Page or the dumbass discussion over whether Lupita Nyongo is good-looking enough (she is, and for the record Diane Kruger is German, not Greek).
If you go listen to the show Shapiro is citing, it’s not about Israel or Netanyahu.
He critiqued Vance’s economic and foreign policy views, partly by going through the VP’s new book.
It’s all responses to direct statements. No one seems to want to actually counter them.
Refusing to air a presidential speech to the nation about election fraud seems like a horrible way to convince people you weren't in on the election fraud.
I know a lot of people are upset with Ben Shapiro over today’s episode, but it is worth remembering that he was one of the first major conservative voices to call out Candace Owens. He took plenty of heat for that too.
You do not have to agree with him. But dismissing him as Israel first is lazy and avoids engaging with what he is actually saying. His arguments are thoughtful, substantive, and reasonable enough to deserve a serious response.
A recent investigator with his wife and 5 children attended a ward.
Why do I speak up?…. because this sort of thing is happening more often than many realize and it demonstrates moral confusion rather than moral clarity. People go to church seeking moral clarity.
I don’t think people in the church realize how different the church can be in some parts of the U.S.
"When your kid opens the door to a bunch of cops and that could have been the end of your child, you're going to think twice when you're issuing your opinions."
The death threats against Amy Coney Barrett may be impacting her ability to do her job.
BREAKING: A same-sex couple is suing their surrogate for $600K after she refused to abort their baby at 22 weeks in Canada.
Scans indicated the child had a cleft lip and a possible heart defect.
The little boy was born healthy.
That child is alive today not because of the men who purchased his life, but because the woman who carried him in her womb protected him.
Children are not commodities. Ban surrogacy now.
The fact that the family proclamation is now controversial shows we have a major problem in the church with active members who simply reject the clear teachings of the prophets and don’t understand our doctrines.
And outsiders look at this division and are turned off as they see what looks like another bickering Protestant sect instead of a united covenant people.
When so many of the members don’t even believe our prophet it looks weird when we are asking non members to.
“If ye are not one… ye are not mine”
There are two kinds of people in the church those who believe President Nelson and those who don’t.
And I would say probably 30-50% of the church don’t.

“Regardless of what civil legislation may be enacted, the doctrine of the Lord regarding marriage and morality cannot be changed. Remember: sin, even if legalized by man, is still sin in the eyes of God!
While we are to emulate our Savior’s kindness and compassion, while we are to value the rights and feelings of all of God’s children, we cannot change His doctrine. It is not ours to change. His doctrine is ours to study, understand, and uphold.” - President Russell M Nelson.
Hollywood should be studying ROI as much as raw box office.

I have to sincerely thank @RealCandaceO.
In ten months, she never produced a shred of evidence that Egyptian planes, the U.S. military, French Legionnaires, or TPUSA killed Charlie Kirk.
But this week she finally produced evidence that Tyler Robinson did.
The photo she released shows Robinson at a Dairy Queen a few minutes from campus, the evening of the shooting — wearing a white-logo Hurley hat.
The same white-logo Hurley hat the shooter is seen wearing on campus. The same white-logo Hurley hat Agent Davis described in his testimony.
Robinson has worn Hurley hats in photos since his teens. Usually the dark logo. But that day: white logo. On campus. At the Dairy Queen. And the following night, when he turned himself in to police.
Ten months of devoting yourself to defending Charlie's accused killer — and the first real evidence you ever produced puts Tyler Robinson near the scene, hours after the murder, in the shooter's hat.
Thank you for your service, Candace.
