The biggest loss in scrapping the Parandur Airport is for TIDCO and Tamil Nadu’s own balance sheet.

Here is the basic reality brainwashed folks screaming "Adani-Ambani corporate loot" fail to understand:

TIDCO owns 100% of the land.

A private consortium leases the land, invests thousands of crores of private capital, builds world-class infrastructure, and maintains it for a 30-year concession period.

After 30 years, the entire multi-billion-dollar operational airport reverts directly back to TIDCO and the State Government.

Just look at how other progressive states build generational wealth:

Bengaluru: KSIIDC holds the land -> Leased to BIAL
Hyderabad: TSIIC / AAI hold the land-> Leased to GHIAL
Navi Mumbai: CIDCO / MADC hold the land -> Leased to NMIAL

The private players don’t walk away with the land—the government remains the permanent owner while getting a world-class asset built on private money.

Dropping Parandur is not Change. It's an irreversible setback for Tamil Nadu's growth

The announcement made today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to drop the Parandur International Airport project will set the State’s development back by several years. Tamil Nadu’s interests cannot be mortgaged for petty political considerations.

An announcement of such far-reaching importance being made under Rule No. 110, shutting out any opportunity for debate or even for members to voice their views, is deeply troubling.

Tamil Nadu leads the country across sectors, from electronics exports to automobiles. A world-class airport in its capital is not merely desirable, but absolutely essential. Rejecting such a vital project is not change. It is a massive disappointment.

The site was carefully selected after evaluating all available alternatives, and the land acquisition process has been almost completed. With several stages of preparatory work and approvals already completed, we had drawn up plans to ensure that construction could begin at a rapid pace once we returned to office. If the new government now starts all over again, identifies another location and goes through the entire process before work can even begin, Tamil Nadu’s growth trajectory itself will DROP.

Under the #DravidianModel government, Tamil Nadu became the first port of call for investors. This decision threatens to push the State to the bottom of the table. The Chief Minister’s announcement is nothing short of a jackpot for competing States!

Without industrial growth, economic targets of one trillion USD or 1.5 trillion USD are simply impossible to achieve. Taken without foresight, planning or consultation, this decision by the TVK government is a devastating blow to the employment dreams of Tamil Nadu’s youth.

When TN scrapped plans for an airport at Sriperumbudur, Chennai ended up missing the LCC-driven 'bull runs' of the aviation industry in the past two decades.
This delay in building a greenfield airport will ensure that it continues to miss out on the industry's growth.

When the previous governments pushed for major road expansion, there were voices arguing that #Tamilnadu already had good roads and that they only needed to be maintained. But the long pending four laning issues on the #Salem - #Ulundurpet corridor itself show why maintenance alone isn't enough when traffic keeps growing. Maintenance is necessary, but when traffic keeps growing, capacity has to grow too.
