Great new paper from my colleague @ekneebone focused on the critical issue of local nonprofit and administrative capacity to provide rental assistance.
While on the subject of homelessness in CA, check out this amazing new report by Monica Davalos and Sara Kimberlin @CalBudgetCenter - first time I've seen data combining race and ethnicity to understand who is disproportionately impacted:

Addressing homelessness in CA is going to take sustained funding and focus. Improving upon the successes of Homekey and ensuring its long-term implementation should be a key priority. More here: https://t.co/ZeGHsXLAX6
Excited to share a new report focused on California's Homekey program, which lifts up lessons from the first round of funding: https://t.co/ZeGHsXLAX6 @TernerHousing@ryanmfinnigan
But more must be done to ensure that the Homekey grantees have the funding they need for long-term operating costs—the biggest concern for interviewees—and for resources to support critical services for case management, health care, and mental health care for residents.
Especially when a safe, affordable and stable place to live is the foundation of every other policy goal, from better educational outcomes to lower health care costs to climate change mitigation. And everything in between.
California's innovative Homekey program has greatly expanded funding for acquisitions and conversions for PSH - @California_HCD just announced new awards yesterday! https://t.co/gzVcHZOU3r
Hotels to affordable housing? A promising strategy, but it will take more funding as well as alignment of capacity, land use regulations, and resources to bring it to scale.

CLTs are such a great model for preserving affordability and ensuring community ownership. Thanks @CACLTN for everything you do to expand CLTs in California!
Great reporting on a critical issue: we need to be intentional to ensure our housing policies mitigate the disparities created by COVID, not exacerbate them. Thanks for including me in your interviews!
