America famously was not built to be a high-trust society — the 13 Colonies had more civil wars between one another prior to Independence than the UK did during its entire existence as Britain.
We were built to be a colonial dumping ground for heretics, renegades, and criminals — that’s foundational to our national DNA.
Actually becoming a high trust society took a lot of work (and it was mostly foisted upon the average American by the Federal government), and a lot of that work revolved around ignoring chuds like @ America.
Pigs are exceptionally clean. The misconception of them being dirty comes from a misinterpretation of their evolutionary adaptation.
Unlike humans, pigs have very few eccrine sweat glands over their bodies. So they can't sweat out internal heat as we do.
To make matters worse, domestically bred pigs have thicker layers of subcutaneous fat, which heats their core even more.
Wild pigs have evolved a way out --> wallowing in clean mud. The mud coating keeps them cool through evaporative cooling. It also protects their hairless skin from UV damage and parasite attack.
This urge to cool down in mud is hardwired in a pig's instinct.
The problem arises in industrial settings where proper wallowing facilities are not provided & pigs are crammed in closed pigsties.
To cool themselves down, they resort to covering themselves in their own waste.
If given clean wallowing facilities, pigs are conscious enough to keep their latrine and living areas completely separate.
The problem exists because we don't understand their biological and evolutionary needs.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, the vast majority of the Global South stayed neutral and most of the radical left was unwilling to clearly and unequivocally condemn Russia for its actions.
It was their opportunity to finally prove that they're on the side of liberal universalism and that they, too, are willing to participate in building a juster world for everyone, but the opposite happened. They were instead worried about their good relations with Russia and didn't feel like the war concerned them
It made me realise that the Global South uses terms like human rights, international law etc. only when it's convenient to them, just like the West does. It shattered my belief that a world order could be built without a hegemon enforcing it. It shifted my outlook on geopolitics much more towards realism. Eventually this resulted in me understanding that different nations and cultures have their own proper interests that can be diametrically opposed to one another.
Once you lose your faith in some kind of universal humanity, you have to stop being a leftist.
