Josh digging into 21CP language around officers’ obligation to attempt/prioritize deescalation — consultants recommend requiring cops always try.
“So, any time you can deescalate, you should?”
“That’s a good way of putting it, yes; while it’s not the law, it is best practice.”

I want to echo this thank-you to all the volunteers who worked on this campaign, and I want to encourage all the people who are disappointed: we have always known progress is slow and comes with setbacks, so don’t lose heart. There will be other great campaigns for us to work on.
@cl4dsm Special interests still have a grip on our elected officials but that will not deter us from the work ahead.
✨ Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped us reach voters and congratulations to Chelsea for a stellar grassroots campaign!
…to say nothing of the $13k+ the national realtors spent on mail for Linda, right before they lost a $1.8B class action lawsuit for anti-consumer conspiracy, or the $25k that Iowa Realtors gave directly to her campaign.
Have a great Election Day! 😁

The climate action plan has 107 recommended actions grouped into these categories, with 35 priority items including transit, local food systems, housing, and lots more.

As we’ve established, I’m one of the only nerds who watches the council work sessions on Monday mornings. Linda asked why MidAm wasn’t presenting for climate action, and she’s really poking at the city staff who are presenting.
Linda: Why can’t we do little incremental actions?
Sustainability director: Because small incremental actions won’t meet the goals established by this council.
Sanders: This plan is based on Council-set metrics. Each of these items will have its own agenda action.
