yj was right, being a female actor in south korea isn’t easy at all. the amount of ridiculous criticism from the netizens and “articles” from the toxic media made me lose even much more interest on k-entertainment. female actresses being ridiculously criticized for every single things. they even got criticized for aging and having natural wrinkles. what a ridiculous country. the double standard is also crazy.
i’m still here because of syj only. i hope she protects her peace. it’s really okay to back being inactive from her social media and only coming back whenever she has a new project to promote or to work on.
Sorry for the quick rant, but I just read Yejin’s interview about their son’s privacy. To the people who will STILL film them during their private time understand that there is never a reason or excuse to film them.
BinJin openly share parts of their lives, including little things about their son. They share those things because they want to. There are boundaries when it comes to their private moments. They’re simply parents who want their child to grow up comfortably away from unnecessary attention that he shouldn’t experience at such a young age.. their son is not a fascinating things in a museum that you can just take pictures and videos of whenever you want.
son yejin:
“i only post happy moments on social media, but i’m just a regular person like anyone else. i look at other people’s social media and wonder, ‘they have a baby, too—why don’t they look tired?’ and feel envious.”
“i tend to focus on my shortcomings and feel regret over what i couldn’t achieve; i’m not the type to sit still, so i’m someone who pours every ounce of energy into things. that’s why i really envy people who are laid-back, relaxed, and optimistic. watching the show <human theater> (kbs documentary mini series) is my way of unwinding. living each day so intensely can sometimes feel overwhelming, so i wish i could take things more easy.” she said, emphasizing that she, too, is an ordinary person with her own share of worries.

when asked about her son, woo-jin, son yejin said, “it’s so nice that people take an interest in us. we were lucky enough to get married amidst everyone’s blessings, so i understand the interest in our child. i’m curious too when i hear someone has had a baby, so i view it the same way.”
“since we’re raising a child, we try to go out as much as possible. if we avoid crowded places, i worry that our child’s environment will be limited and he won’t be able to have many experiences, so we try to visit crowded places and travel. however, there are times when people secretly take photos of him. i’m cautious about his face being exposed. we can put up with the inconvenience, but our child doesn’t understand it yet,” she said, opening up about her feelings as a mother.

son yejin still managed to respond positively even after a bunch of ignorant people spread out candid pics of her personal time with her family that included her son’s pics. those attention seekers don’t deserve her kindness.
regarding her future acting direction, son yejin began by saying,
“i’ve always wanted to keep trying different things. i think that as i get older, the range of roles i can take on will expand, and the ways i can express myself will become more diverse.”
“i think there’s a joy—both for the actor and for the audience—in showing sides of myself i haven’t tried before or revealed yet. i don’t think i’m limiting myself to what i will or won’t do anymore.”
“if there were limitations to what i could express in my 20s and 30s, i think those boundaries might expand a bit more now.”
when asked what significance <the scandal> would hold in her filmography, she replied, “i’m not really sure right after finishing a project. i think it takes time to truly understand the meaning of a work.”
“there are times when i look back later and realize, ‘oh, doing this project is what led me here.’”
“<the scandal> is, after all, the first historical drama in which i was able to truly showcase my abilities, so if it serves as a stepping stone to another historical drama in the future, it could be a starting point.”

son yejin responded about the divided opinions and critics on <the scandal> very wisely. that’s why i adore her so much.
she also had clear thoughts on the show’s content and public reception.
“it’s not a story that can appeal to everyone. unlike many shows today with fast-paced editing and rapid plot development, this is a work that emphasizes the beauty of negative space, moments of stillness and pause.”
“i didn’t necessarily want viewers to empathize with lady cho. while i’d love for everyone to give it rave reviews, it’s not easy for a show to to receive universal acclaim,” she stated firmly.
regarding the attention focused on the 19+ scenes and unconventional plot elements, she said, “naturally, many people are bound to be interested, and i don’t find that’s strange at all. although i’ve filmed such works before, it’s disheartening when those elements themselves become the sole topic of discussion.”
“we put a great deal of effort into filming those scenes because they were essential—sensitive, yes, yet extremely important scenes that define the character. i do worry that if those moments become the primary focus, other aspects of the work might get overshadowed, but i accept the situation as an unavoidable situation. i hope that as time goes on, people will come to view it with a more open mind,” she said calmly.

son ye jin bilang dia bersyukur anaknya nggak sering tantrum 🥹
YeJin shares about her comment on the Blue Dragon post & #HyunBin's reaction to her appearing in <The Scandal>
🐰My husband sent that to me. I looked it up thinking, 'What is this?' and when I watched the video, there was even footage of him hitting a car like this (MIK Ep3), which was funny. It was so amusing that I left a comment. It was hilarious. He sent it back to me while laughing along.
Regarding Hyun Bin's reaction to YeJin appearing in <The Scandal>
🐰He doesn't seem to show any reaction when I say I will do it. He seems to respect me as an actor. (laughs) I'm not sure. He didn't say anything like that.
son yejin on motherhood & family life ♥︎
"i have so much respect for everyone who manages both childcare and work. even when you’re not taking care of your child, mothers keep thinking about their child, so their brains are basically running at full capacity.
there are so many things you have to think about while caring for a child, what side dishes to prepare, what to pack, how many diapers are left, what’s in the fridge, and so on. it’s really not easy.
when you’re working, just focusing on that alone can already feel overwhelming. but then your brain has to keep running for childcare too, so there are times when it feels like a lot. that’s why i think mothers have it hard.
i think ages two to three are probably the hardest. now that i’ve raised him to four, we can actually communicate, and i can even scold him. he’s also not the type to throw a lot of tantrums, so i’m grateful even for that.
even though it’s hard, the happiness a child gives you is incomparable, so i’m living with so much gratitude. i’m grateful that he’s healthy and that we can spend time together as a family like we do now. but it’s definitely not easy."

(interview) son yejin on the mixed reactions to ‘the scandal’
“i never thought that everyone would be able to relate to this story and these characters from the beginning.
nevertheless, i chose it because i found something new in it.
i don’t think we can ask people who look at the work critically to only see it according to the intentions we had when making it. as for the reactions that come afterward, i think i have to humbly accept them.
because it’s a historical drama with the long format of eight episodes, i naturally expected the pacing to feel slower and perhaps unfamiliar compared to a fast-paced modern drama. with pansori being part of it too, i thought it might feel unfamiliar to some people.
the characters aren’t one-dimensional, and the story portrays complicated and diverse aspects of human nature, so i expected there would definitely be mixed reactions.
but i also appeared in it because i believed there were definitely new and interesting things that this work could offer. of course, it would be best if everyone praised it, but even though i’ve been doing this for decades, that rarely happens to me either. it’s not easy. everything has to fall into place for that to happen. of course, i didn’t think it was a story that deserved outright harsh criticism.
i was fascinated by how a woman with exceptional talent, living among people whose desires were suppressed in an era when they couldn’t even express their own voices, could become twisted and develop a sense of emptiness when she couldn’t fulfill her desires. if she were alive today, she would probably be a woman who could pursue self-realization in a wonderful way. i really wanted to express what kind of restraints she would face because she lived in that era, and how those restraints would change her.”
