Those who requested VAD were more likely to have cancer, to have witnessed a ‘bad death’ of someone they loved, and / or those who just didn’t want to go through the dying process “I want to be me until I die”. They were not typically those suffering from difficult symptoms.

Timely and topical Grand Round at St George Hospital, Sydney today. A review of the Voluntary Assisted Dying service over the past 12 months since it was legalised in New South Wales, Australia. Interestingly 85% of patients requesting VAD were being seen by palliative care.
