@HerbsandDirt Autistic people were hidden away in institutions, that’s why. My grandparents sent my uncle John, who was autistic, to summer camp in the 70s (with a helper) & he was the 1st child w/autism to go. Why? Because no one had been allowed before that. Not because they didn’t exist.

@Jeffschultz204 @DoubleEmMartin I second this, Jeff - I took up pottery in the last two years and having a creative outlet, where I use my hands, get dirty and don’t try to sell anything or make money is impossibly rewarding. It’s just for me and it’s so much fun. (Another bonus: it’s not on the computer!)

The Urban High School Athlete of the Week is Spencer Grahame of the Lord Selkirk Royals volleyball team. Captain of the JV team, he led them to victory at several tournaments. He also led the Royals to a silver medal at the McDonald's Provincial "AAAA" Volleyball Championships.

She suggests using your passions to do good. If you do makeup, volunteer at Thrive’s annual fashion show. If you are strong, and willing to work hard, come mentor the men who work to move furniture at Thrive. There are so many ways to help - there is not 1 box you must fit into.
