Construction of the Standard Gauge Railway through Kisumu marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards economic transformation. Its impact on the lives and the livelihoods of our people across Kisumu County and the wider region will be profound.

Today, together with the Managing Director of Kenya Railways Philip Mainga, and his technical team, as well as the Kisumu County Commissioner, Ramadhan Mwabudzo with other Senior County Government officials, I visited the Kibos SGR Phase 2C Terminus project site to assess progress following the official launch of the works.

I am encouraged to note that ground preparation has already commenced, a clear indication that this long-awaited project is now taking shape. We look forward to its timely completion so that our people can begin to realise its immense economic and social benefits.

This occasion also reaffirms an important constitutional principle. The framers of our Constitution envisioned a system of government founded on consultation, cooperation, and mutual respect between the National Government and county governments. The relationship was never intended to be one of competition, but of complementarity in the service of the people.

There are no national citizens and county citizens. There are only Kenyans, united by a common destiny and bound by a shared responsibility to build a more prosperous, inclusive, and equitable nation. When the two levels of government work together in fidelity to the Constitution, development ceases to be a political slogan and becomes a lived reality for our people.

That is the spirit in which we shall continue to engage, placing the public interest above partisan considerations and ensuring that transformative projects such as the Standard Gauge Railway deliver lasting value to present and future generations. #TichTire
