It’s a shame more don’t understand how important Tesla’s culture for reinventing designs for low cost manufacturing and material costs gives them a competitive advantage. Add EV technology and self driving and you own the future at the lowest total cost. Don’t see how “The majors” can ever get there. Love my early low cost Lightning EV but the next car will be a Tesla.
Why would you ever need to rapid charge at home? This works and has already paid back in less than 5 years with the next 400,000 KWh of electricity from a paid back system plus at least another $10k SREC bonus payments. Electricity is about $.18 KWH now and soon will be $.50 KWh
@JohnFrankDalton@CharlesMullins2 These make 20,000 KWh/yr in cloudy Pittsburgh, PA or enough to drive my Tesla 80,000 miles/yr and as you see there are no emissions.
Thinking pre covid products and not C8 Corvettes with the expensive off warranty issues for early entries into fun drivers at the bottom of their prices. Have thought about a 2019 Bullitt Mustang as a modern version of a 68 Z28 but don’t think they have bottomed in price. Earlier Grand Sport Corvettes and pre covid V8 Camaro’s have potential but are still depreciating.
William thanks for sharing mine is on the delivery truck now. The efficiency of the M3 Premium RWD with 17” wheels was a major factor as I understand how extra miles really add up when you consider running from 80% to 20%. My 22 Lightning averages 2 miles/KWh or less than half the efficiency.
Ford killed the Lightning because their design and production costs were too high to sell enough at prices that they could make a profit on it. Range while towing long distances will always be an issue where large EV’s suffer but most 1/2 ton pickup buyers don’t do long range towing anyway. Those that do should never buy an EV as rapid road charging costs more so why even bother?
@RedDeath408@alphafox Safety risk because it does not have modern safety features. Maintenance in the older ones is easy especially if you don’t drive them much.
Nic took your advise and had a test drive on Tuesday, reflected for a day then put my AMG on marketplace and two hours later it was sold. My new model 3 is now on a truck on its way to Pittsburgh and about to become my favorite daily driver. Will be our second EV with my 4 year old Lightning F150 EV and mostly home charged from our 5 year old solar system that makes 20,000 KWh/yr.
@MyLordBebo Had an insider tour of several of their best manufacturing plants years ago and have extensive experience in world class manufacturing. I definitely would not take an X7 from Russia and even have problems with one from Germany.
@HappyMotorhead Wow that will be a huge hit in the market doing 0-60 in the same time as my $48k 2022 Lightning F150 EV with virtually no maintenance and farm solar produced fuel. How many people are paying $80k for that in a few years?
Jim am the same 78 year ex drag racing old gearhead dad and did the model 3 test drive Tuesday. The new owner is picking up my AMG today and the model 3 order goes in tomorrow. In year 4 with a 22 Lightning EV running on the farm solar with a survivor 67 Vette and 68 RS Z 28 still in the garage. I do drive them less since the Lightning arrived.
Wow a new slower complex expensive to run new sedan in a few years. Getting a $40k self driving Model 3 next week to go with my 22 Lightning to use up my extra solar. The 67 Vette and 68 RS Z28 make real sounds when you are in the mood which is becoming less often with EV levels of performance.
@teslacarsonly Yes and that’s what makes me interested in this Tesla Model Q now. Running the house and EV on my home solar system for almost 5 years already and looking for another nice EV which will be a Tesla.
@niccruzpatane Global EV adoption is impressive - growing awareness of FSD, improving battery technology and making your own fuel at home with minimal cost/zero emissions will drive it even faster.
@HappyMotorhead Love my survivor 67 Corvette and 68 RS Z28 but no way would I ever daily drive them again.
The maintenance, fuel cost, safety risks and poor driving dynamics are too high to live with every day.
@B7frankH No need to explain it to a Tesla driver they already understand and know you don’t want to do this everyday all day! We just buy an appreciating classic for the few days we want an old school experience with the money we are saving.
