On February 9th, the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches commemorate Saint Apollonia, a virgin martyr from Alexandria who suffered during an anti-Christian uprising in the early 3rd century. She is venerated as the patron saint of dentistry.

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:10)

Saint Apollonia, intercede for us, that we may stand firm in our faith and find strength in God's love during times of adversity.
Amen.

Today, February 8th, the Catholic Church honours Saint Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese-born woman who endured the horrors of slavery before embracing the Catholic faith and becoming a Canossian Sister. Despite suffering immense cruelty, she found freedom in Italy and dedicated her life to serving God and others.

"The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed." (Psalm 103:6)

Saint Josephine Bakhita, inspire us to act justly towards all who are oppressed and to extend compassion to those who suffer oppression.
Amen.

Today, January 30th, the Catholic Church honours Saint Martina of Rome, a noble virgin martyred in 228 AD under Emperor Alexander Severus. Known for her unwavering faith, she endured severe tortures and ultimately faced beheading for refusing to renounce Christianity.

Reflecting on her courage, we recall the words of Jesus: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:10)

Saint Martina's steadfastness in faith, even unto death, challenges us to remain resolute in our beliefs amidst adversity. Her example encourages us to stand firm in our convictions and trust in God's promises.

O Lord, grant us the courage and faith of Saint Martina, that we may remain steadfast in our devotion to You.
Amen.
