If you'll be on the job market, for any job, there are a bunch of important things to do beforehand.
In academia we don't think too much about them. When it comes to the wider world of jobs, you'll never be able to focus (and thus have employers focus on you) without these.

Oh, in totally unrelated news, I had a job interview 3 weeks ago and I don't have any news about that. In case you were wondering. In the meantime, I carry on as if I won't be offered the position.
if you have kids in your life, buy them books for Christmas. local bookstores are going to need all the help they can get to survive the long winter and nothing beats the joy of placing in a child's hands the book that makes them fall in love with reading.
@kimberleydaly Mine is a night owl. Her timing is impeccable. 5 minutes after we turn off the lights to go to sleep. Every night without fail the wild zoomies and meows for attention start.
I know they make sense in some contexts, and can be useful as an exercise; otherwise, I don't urge folks to have a 5 year plan.
Life, work, the world we live in is too complex, too uncertain.
Instead, know your values & strengths & deeper desires and go do good, brave things.
Fellow teachers: one of my students just sent me A SELFIE FROM THE HOSPITAL to prove he wasn’t just slacking off in class & again I say: WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING IN THEIR OTHER CLASSES? Please be kind. Be generous. Trust students. & if you get “fooled” this semester? Who cares.
I think its safe to say that the 1st Gather conference was a success! A big thanks to the planning head @OneMomentG, the speakers, and the Gather community for joining us. Its been fun! #GATHER2020
Ended the day with a workshop where we got in breakout rooms and shared our experiences with a partner. My partner helped me identify strengths and skills in myself.
