The turn to exquisitely styled casual dress in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s revolutionized fashion. Black designers and wearers were at the center of redefining how people dress and show up—as themselves—to work and play. Resisting authoritative norms of dress, they donned khaki, knitted cardigans, tracksuits, and denim, which came to manifest the art of being unbothered and dexterous.
