It is our last week together for the next two days, so let's enjoy it. It's going to be hot so remember to bring your drink bottle so you can top it up with water, as needed.
Enjoy the holidays, Hedgehogs. We've an exciting half-term left to go together so let's make the most of it. We've: English, phonics, handwriting, maths, science, computing, outdoor learning, PE (Real PE and cricket), PSHE and more. Let's learn, play and laugh to our best!
Hedgehogs have had a fabulous day despite the strong winds+rain! We've held a scavenger hunt, explored parts of the school's grounds we've not explored before, made self portraits using natural materials, made bird feeders, made bunting for our raised beds, cooked popcorn + more.
@moverandgroover @ChipBoroughLC Hedgehogs' Class are looking forward to the day we can revisit Chippenham Library with you reading some of the lovely story books you have. Fingers crossed.
Hawthorn (also called May, after the month when it usually flowers): See if you can find this tree in our school grounds or on your walks in Chippenham? It's a medium sized tree, often used as hedging, with pale green leaves, thorn covered twigs, white flowers and red berries.
Silver Birch: See if you can find this tree in our school grounds or on your walks around Chippenham? It's a medium sized tree with silver-white bark that shreds like tissue paper. It has drooping branches, smooth twigs, catkins and leaves that are almost triangular in shape.
Which of these pictures shows a quarter coloured in yellow? (Hint: the shape needs to have been divided into 4 EQUAL parts, and 1 of those EQUAL parts has been coloured in.)
6th wildflower challenge - see if you can spot these wildflowers when you are outside - cowslip: (related to yesterday's wild primroses), deep yellow small flowers in a cluster on a stalk, crinkled leaves. Found in meadows, fields and grassland. Blooming April-May.
Hedgehogs are enjoying our Talk4Writing unit which is based around "Amazing Grace" by Mary Hoffman. If you'd like to listen to the whole original story and see the original pictures, by Caroline Binch, watch this video clip - enjoy it! : https://t.co/wlVd8CHqd4
5th wildflower challenge - see if you can spot these wildflowers when you are outside - wild primroses: pale creamy-yellow flowers with a deep yellow eye, with rough tongue-like leaves. Mostly found in shade, like in woodlands, grasslands and by hedges. Blooming March to May.
Which pictures show 1/2 coloured in blue? (Hint: remember, the shape needs to be divided into two EQUAL parts and one of those parts will be coloured blue.)
4th wildflower challenge. See if you can spot these wildflowers when you are outside - bluebells: deep violet-blue bell-shaped flowers with tips turned up, narrow strap-shaped smooth leaves with a pointed tip. Sometimes the flowers are white or pink! Blooming now in woodlands.
3rd wildflower challenge. See if you can spot these wildflowers when you are outside: lesser celandine: shiny, star-like yellow leaves, 8-12 petals, glossy heart-shaped leaves on long stems, low growing, in the buttercup family. Blooming now.
Welcome back, Hedgehogs's Class. Playtime in the sunshine, blue sky, laughter, giggles, chats, a chance to run. Have a great time, today. Enjoy lessons, too!
2nd wildflower challenge. See if you can spot these wildflowers when you are outside. Ground ivy: not an ivy but related to dead-nettles! Small, pale violet-blue flowers, heart or kidney-shaped leaves, low on the ground, often by hedges and edges of fields. Blooming now.
What wildflowers can you recognise and name? Here is one to get you started. Buttercups: small, shiny, bright yellow flowers that usually have 5 petals. They bloom in April or May and last all summer. See if you can spot them when you are out and about.
Summer Term - hurray! Let's warm up our maths brains by playing the "Pairs for 10" game. You say a number, e.g. 3, then your partner has to say the number that would make 10 if you joined together, eg. 7. Try with other pairs (e.g. 1+9). How quickly can you make the pairs for 10?
