If Syrskyi remains in command, some military personnel will leave the service. Among the elite professionals we support, about 20% already have legal grounds for immediate discharge, and another 10% could quickly complete the paperwork and also become eligible. At least half of them will certainly leave if this stale status quo prevails and the few remaining hopes for change disappear. People are already utterly exhausted, and their patience is wearing thin.
Zelenskyy needs to do more than simply dismiss Syrskyi. The new Commander-in-Chief must inspire the Defense Forces to fight and to win. The new Minister of Defense must be someone who provides the newest weapons of victory.
The situation is changing so rapidly that every week brings entirely new challenges. A year ago, such challenges emerged every two months, and the state was clearly unable to keep up.
Only recently had we finally begun responding adequately and staying ahead of events—and then all of that was sacrificed for a return to the Soviet way of doing things.
Naturally, this has created a tidal wave of despair among the very people everything has rested on since February 24, 2022.
We must win through rational, sound, and inspiring decisions. That means we need a Commander-in-Chief, a Minister of Defense, and a Chief of the General Staff who are exceptionally talented, extraordinarily intelligent, absolutely responsible, completely determined, and incredibly charismatic.
It is painful. There are moments when I feel like I can't do this anymore, but I keep working to save the lives of the Warriors of Light.

Acht Mal hat Russland dieselbe Metrostation in Kyjiw getroffen – mit Ballistik, Drohnen und Hyperschallwaffen gegen den Ort, an dem Zehntausende jede Nacht Schutz suchen.
Die Lukjaniwska ist einer der wichtigsten Schutzräume der Hauptstadt. In einer einzigen Angriffsnacht Anfang Juli flüchteten 52.500 Menschen in die Kyjiwer Metro, darunter 4.500 Kinder.
Was auf diesen Ort geschossen wird:
Im Januar 2025 schlug eine ballistische Rakete direkt vor dem Stationseingang ein. Drei Menschen starben.
Im Juli 2025 traf eine Shahed-Drohne die Station. Triebwerksteile lagen neben dem Stationsschild.
Beim achten Treffer im Mai feuerte Russland in einer Nacht 90 Raketen und 600 Drohnen auf Kyjiw – darunter 30 ballistische Iskander-M, zwei Kinzhal- und drei Zirkon-Hyperschallraketen sowie Marschflugkörper. Die Druckwellen zerstörten den Eingangsbereich, das Einkaufszentrum daneben brannte vollständig aus, unten flüchteten Menschen in die Tunnel.
Laut geleakten russischen Beschaffungsverträgen liegt der Produktionspreis dieser Raketen zwischen 1,5 und 5,6 Millionen Dollar pro Stück. Allein die Mai-Nacht dürfte Russland über 250 Millionen Dollar gekostet haben.
Und die Institutionen, die das stoppen müssten? Russland sitzt weiter mit Vetorecht im UN-Sicherheitsrat – dem Organ, das den Weltfrieden schützen soll – und blockiert dort jede Resolution gegen sich selbst.
Das IOC hob diesen Monat die Suspendierung des russischen Olympischen Komitees auf. Die Begründung: Russland habe seine Sportverbände in den besetzten ukrainischen Gebieten formal aufgelöst. Ein Verwaltungsakt auf Papier – während dieselbe Führung Schutzräume bombardieren lässt – öffnet den Weg zurück nach Los Angeles 2028. Ukrainische Athleten, die Angehörige, Trainingsstätten oder Gliedmaßen verloren haben, sollen dann neben denen antreten, deren Staat weiter auf ihre Städte schießt.
Neun EU-Staaten haben dagegen protestiert. Es müssten alle sein.

A “compromise position” for Fedorov is unlikely to work. The defense minister’s authority is defined by law, and any alternative or newly created role would be largely honorary.
Only the defense minister has the legal authority to implement regulatory and procurement reforms.
Former Fedorov adviser Serhii Sternenko says brigade commanders were ordered to record videos supporting Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. Screenshots shared by Sternenko describe the videos as a directive from above rather than the independent position of brigades.
He also alleges that soldiers who publicly oppose Syrskyi face reprisals. Sternenko cited a serviceman from the 425th Regiment who posted criticism of Syrskyi and then disappeared from public view, with the account deleted.

Every soldier has a cemetery bearing Syrskyi's name. Every volunteer has one too. The worst day for me was 26 guys in a single day.
What is this cemetery, you may ask?
It is the cemetery of those who died for absolutely no reason, simply because they were carrying out a senseless order.
That is what has hurt the most throughout all these years. There are several soldiers who lost their minds and have spent endless time in hospitals because they could not endure all of this.
Yes, a few times in 2022 and 2023, Syrskyi saved our men from even more reckless butchers. But I cannot recall a single similar case from 2024 through 2026. There simply were none. He became increasingly ruthless.
And one more thing.
Syrskyi considers the Battle of Kyiv to be a lifetime justification for everything that followed. But I will say this plainly: if Syrskyi had been Commander-in-Chief on February 24, 2022, the Russians would have entered Kyiv.
Because Syrskyi carries out every wish of Zelenskyy and Yermak. One of those wishes before the invasion was to send all the brigades from the Kyiv region to the East. Zaluzhnyi, at his own risk, delayed the 72nd Brigade for a week under a fabricated pretext and made sure Yermak's people knew nothing about it. On February 23, he moved the brigade to defend Kyiv along the Irpin River—again entirely at his own risk. There was no longer enough time to occupy positions along the Prypiat River.
The 72nd Brigade became the backbone of Kyiv's defense, and the enemy did not enter the city. Would the 72nd Brigade still have been in the Kyiv region if Syrskyi had been Commander-in-Chief? No. Every wish would have been carried out, the battle would have been lost, and there would have been a sea of blood and defeat.
We should think not only about the victory near Kyiv, but about the lessons of February 2022, which go much deeper.
Soldiers are issued only 12 shotgun shells to shoot down drones. This is already the fourth year of the drone war, yet they keep buying Safari shotguns that spend endless time being repaired. Holosun thermal super-collimators have only recently begun to be issued, and only to some special operations personnel.
If American soldiers were protected this way, they would sue—and they would win. But here, in the fifth year of the war, saving soldiers remains the responsibility of the soldiers themselves and the volunteers.
All of this hurts...

An overview of the daily events in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Following the dismissal of defense minister Fedorov, many Ukrainians went to the streets and protested. Fedorov also spoke out.

Zelenskyy acknowledges Fedorov’s outstanding performance and announces his return to a strategic national security role
The political drama surrounding the government reshuffle has taken a dramatic turn, significantly changing the political landscape. Following widespread public debate, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov’s press conference, and public appeals from volunteers and the business community, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an important statement. He publicly praised Fedorov’s performance as defense minister, recognizing that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ technological leap over the past six months has been exemplary, and announced the reformer's return to the government in a fundamentally new and unexpected role.
The Presidential Office confirmed that the country's leadership reached a consensus on Fedorov’s future role after he publicly rejected a standard advisory position, insisting instead on real authority to continue military reforms.
During a working meeting with the newly formed Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of preserving the reform team’s expertise. He stressed that debates over the military command and interagency disagreements should not overshadow achievements that have already produced tangible battlefield results, including the expansion of large-scale drone programs and Ukraine’s domestic ballistic missile initiative.
According to sources close to the Presidential Office, Zelenskyy acknowledged that the original plan to remove Fedorov from the government due to disagreements with the General Staff had been a tactical mistake that created unnecessary public tension.
> “Mykhailo Fedorov has proven that he can break through bureaucratic barriers and create asymmetric advantages against the enemy. His dismissal as minister was a procedural step within the broader government restructuring, but he remains an integral part of our team. The state highly values his contribution, and we have created a role where his full potential can be realized without the limitations of a traditional ministerial office,” Zelenskyy said, effectively ending behind-the-scenes speculation and apologizing for the wave of damaging rumors in the media.
A special mandate within the National Security and Defense Council
Because the appointment of new ministers required a complex parliamentary reshuffle—including the appointment of Acting Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara—an alternative and far more flexible leadership role was created for Fedorov.
According to preliminary information from presidential advisers, Mykhailo Fedorov will be directly appointed to Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) as Head of the Coordination Council for Defense MilTech and Strategic Planning. The position will report directly to the President and include broad authority:
Coordination of all defense innovation: Brave1, long-range drone production, and Ukraine’s missile program will come under his direct supervision, bypassing middle-level approval processes within the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff.
Oversight of military procurement: Establishing a transparent digital system to monitor defense logistics and eliminate corruption risks.
Direct engagement with Western partners: Fedorov will remain the chief negotiator responsible for attracting foreign investment into Ukraine’s high-tech defense industry.
Reaction from Parliament and society: the crisis is over
News that President Zelenskyy and Mykhailo Fedorov had reached an agreement—and that the reformer would return with expanded powers—was met with noticeable relief among politicians and volunteer organizations. Members of Parliament who had previously criticized the Presidential Office over behind-the-scenes personnel decisions said the compromise would help preserve domestic stability.
All the military personnel I've spoken to about the cardboard protests this summer...
"Don't let them steal our Victory. Don't let them sell us out and sell out the country. Protect us from senseless losses caused by Syrskyi's orders!"
Last summer, about 5% of the soldiers I spoke with said, "People shouldn't go out," followed by various arguments borrowed from Telegram channels. Now, not a single one has said that, although I have constant communication with the military! Everything has become far too obvious!!!
Everyone understands that all hope rests on:
1. technologies that will make everything possible—from a burned-out russia to mobilization;
2. overcoming the Soviet mentality with its habit of sending people to their deaths;
3. putting an end to the gangster-like abuse of people that has spread from the Skelia, despite the fact that this is completely unnecessary, because there are examples of units that fight even more effectively than Skelia—even among assault regiments—while protecting their people on the battlefield and not abusing them in the rear!!!
An army is either a prison or special forces!
Fedorov, although not a general, understood this and chose the special forces approach. The generals speak about the need for the Army to become special forces, yet they are turning it into a prison.
The crisis in the Defense Forces has now reached even elite units, and Fedorov has begun saving the Defense Forces from collapse instead of following the formula: "everyone became Skelia—everyone died, and the country fell."
Thanks to Fedorov, not only has a way out of the global crisis appeared, but a window of opportunity to achieve Victory has also been created!

Actually, I can give you a very simple and comprehensive explanation of what lies at the heart of the current major political crisis and the protests against the dismissal of defense minister Fedorov in Ukraine.
The reason is that Fedorov's brief time in office, together with the impressive successes of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the air and at sea, gave the Ukrainian people one thing above all else: HOPE.
Hope that this horrific war, with its appalling sacrifices and monumental heroism, might end in something far better than, at best, the bitter and humiliating "peace" for heroic Ukraine that would certainly be nothing more than a short respite before an even greater nightmare.
It is the hope that good will ultimately triumph over evil, that life will overcome death and light will overcome the dark, that justice truly exists in this world, and that the great vile evil embodied by fascist Russia will be punished for its crimes.
And who knows how history may yet unfold -- perhaps that hope will one day lead us back home, to Donetsk, Luhansk, Mariupol, Melitopol, Berdyansk, or Crimea, so treacherously stolen from us.
And hope is a tremendous force.
I strongly advise no one to stand in the way of Ukrainians who have finally seen a light at the end of the tunnel of darkness and a source of genuine good hope.
Europe’s financial support is becoming leverage over wartime governance—
Zelensky’s dismissal of Fedorov has placed the European Union in an uncomfortable position as Ukraine’s principal external financial backer.
Brussels has committed roughly €220 billion since the full-scale invasion and provided €21 billion during the first half of 2026 alone. European officials have largely avoided dictating personnel choices, but concerns over military procurement, anti-corruption reform, and administrative continuity are likely to intensify.
Ukraine remains sovereign, yet its war economy depends on taxpayers abroad. Zelensky’s reshuffle therefore risks turning a domestic power struggle into a wider dispute over how much accountability financial dependence allows Europe to demand.

I have been consistent in my analysis. Back in 2023, when I spoke out against Syrski, before he was appointed Commander-in-Chief, many people disagreed. As time has shown, however, my assessment was correct. I think it's time to start filling out the Tatarigami apology form😃
Syrskyi's conflicts with the GUR and the SBU are another story that everyone remains silent about.
There is reason to suspect that this is why Malyuk was removed, and now Khmara as well, handing the SBU over to the political wing while pushing this service toward a deep systemic crisis.
There is also reason to suspect that this is why Budanov's candidate was not appointed, and why the GUR's capabilities have been reduced by half across the board.
The story is this.
Syrskyi got many officers killed, not only soldiers, and a couple of years ago this created a severe shortage of platoon and company commanders, along with shortages in other officer positions. Syrskyi then demanded that the intelligence and security services immediately provide him with seven thousand officers.
He was refused, and that resentment is believed to be one of the reasons why Syrskyi, by manipulating Zelenskyy, has tried to strike both the SBU and the GUR—their combat units, the chiefs who refused him, and their personnel.
Of course everyone stays silent because it is a very ugly story. But continuing to hide it now means destroying Ukraine's future and destroying the possibility of Victory.
Incidentally, this also explains why Syrskyi is now reportedly planning to remove Khmara. He was one of those who, together with Malyuk, refused to hand over his people—and forgiveness is simply not an option.
That is why we need a new Commander-in-Chief immediately, and there are many reasons for it. We need new approaches, a new quality of military leadership, and we need to restore the sense of the Defense Forces as a community. Right now they are dominated by the Soviet mentality, intrigue, and a prison-like system—something even worse than a prison.
It cannot continue like this. The Defense Forces cannot endure Syrskyi's system, the country cannot endure it, and if the enemy doubles its army this autumn, we certainly will not endure it.

The core problem facing Ukraine's Armed Forces right now has a name, and it is not some abstract systemic failure. It is Oleksandr Syrskyi. When Fedorov finally spoke plainly after his dismissal, he did not launch a personal vendetta. He laid out how the war has fundamentally changed while the man at the top still runs it like a Soviet staff exercise from 1985. Drones rewrite battlefield geometry four times a year. Individual tech solutions turn over twenty to thirty times annually. Yet Syrskyi's headquarters answers with intrigue, suspicion, and manual allocation of everything from shells to bodies. That is not command. That is patronage politics dressed in digital camouflage.
Look at the mechanics. Supply and reinforcement now operate on loyalty tiers. Syrskyi's favorites can receive ten to twenty times the manpower and materiel that disloyal or simply independent brigades get. Some corps exist only on paper. A corps commander may exercise real authority over just one of five brigades while the rest fight with borrowed battalions and no coherent operational depth. Planning has collapsed to tactical level because the Commander-in-Chief is busy curating political loyalty instead of designing a war-winning campaign that integrates new technology at speed. Fedorov proposed exactly that asymmetric approach: treat the army as a technology platform, not a meat grinder. Syrskyi blocked it. Then he forced Zelenskyy to choose between them.
The personal praetorian unit tells you everything. The 425th Assault Battalion "Skala" ballooned into what is effectively a division with sixteen battalions by vacuuming up mobilized men regardless of training or motivation. Some of those men were professionals. Many were not. The result was predictable: assaults launched without reconnaissance, at least one documented friendly-fire incident on an adjacent brigade that had zero warning, wounded soldiers labeled "disposable" and left on the field. Before Fedorov took Defense, the General Staff simply refused to share accurate casualty data with the ministry. Non-combat deaths reached grotesque levels. One investigation alone recorded twenty-six mobilized men dead from "pneumonia" in six months. That is not fog of war. That is criminal negligence wrapped in Soviet accounting.
Even now, after public protests erupted over Fedorov's removal, Syrskyi issued orders pulling every protesting serviceman back from leave and silencing them. Loyalty tests over combat effectiveness. Independent successful commanders are rotated out or sidelined while loyal but mediocre ones rotate every few months. A new brigade commander needs at least six months to understand terrain, personnel, and unit capability. Syrskyi's churn guarantees none of them ever get there. Failures carry no кадров consequences for the inner circle. This is not merit-based wartime leadership. This is the construction of a personal power vertical inside an army that is bleeding the nation white.
Fedorov has been careful to credit Syrskyi's role in 2022, the Kyiv defense, the Kharkiv counteroffensive, the initial salvation of the state. That history is real. But the war of 2026 is not the war of 2022. Moscow is losing between thirty and thirty-five thousand men a month, more than it can replace. Ukrainian long-range strike capacity is scaling dramatically. By the end of this year operational-level Russian logistics will be under sustained fire, Crimea will be isolated, and Ukrainian forces will be producing licensed Patriots, Tomahawks, and domestic air-defense systems while FREYA, drone interceptors, and Gripen squadrons knit together the most lethal integrated defense Europe has ever seen. None of that happens if the General Staff remains addicted to quantity over quality, loyalty over competence, and manual control over scalable asymmetric doctrine.
The deeper rot is cultural.
