Yes - generally you’d expect even a frontier model like Fable to be somewhat weaker on Clojure than on Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, etc. because there’s much less Clojure code in the training distribution.

@foxyjackfox This is for Clojure, so I'm actually not sure where it got that from. Maybe it's applying Java patterns from its training since they're both JVM.

Hi @TheoryTestIE and @RSAIreland. Yes I know Irish and UK government orgs are designed to show a level of incompetence to frustrate the populace and give some kind of hope that we're not run by evil :)

But some of these questions...

I'd give it about 30/100 for question quality.

I can see what they're trying to test: don't change down prematurely; stay in the higher gear while the vehicle can comfortably maintain speed, then change down as road speed falls.

But the wording is poor:

“change down to the appropriate gear” already implies you're choosing the correct gear at the correct time.

The word “but…” doesn't lead naturally into the supposed correct answer.

“change gears when speed has decreased” is vague — how much must speed decrease?

Your answer, “only if the engine begins to labour,” is quite plausible, because engine load is one of the real-world indicators that you need a lower gear.

A much better question would be:

> “To maximise fuel economy, when should a driver normally select a lower gear?”
Answer: When road speed has fallen sufficiently that the current gear is no longer suitable.

So yes: the underlying driving principle is reasonable; the actual question is badly constructed.
