We would like to wish all of our CLC community a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year!✨
Pictured is a lovely, festive photo of College in the snow in 1917❄️

At the weekend, College gathered for a #Remembrance Service to remember those who have died in conflict. The service included hymns, anthems, readings, and prayers led by Rev Rosie Amess.
Today, College observed a two minute silence at 11.00am during an Act of Remembrance.
To mark #Halloween, we thought we’d share some #1980s Halloween party throwbacks.
Dressing up for various occasions throughout the academic year has always been loved by students.

Cambray House (pictured in 1905) became a reduced-price #boarding house, to increase access to education for more families. It had a ‘properly built Swedish gymnasium’ (pictured in 1890), a facility not common in girls’ schools at the time. #Archive
The name Cambray has been associated with College from the beginning. When CLC first opened in 1854, it was based in Cambray House, a #Georgian building in Cheltenham town centre. The number of pupils went from 82 to over 200, so 20 years later, College was moved to a new site.
Here is a great photo of the Princess Hall from the 1920s.
The room was filled to the rafters with no spare seat in sight!

Alongside championing and paving the way for change for women in #STEM, Miss Beale was a firm believer in teaching European languages. Presumably, Eliza would have received much encouragement to develop her fluency in #German.
Eliza Dunbar was a House Surgeon at Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children. She studied at CLC as a day pupil from August 1856 to June 1861.

College was delighted to open our doors on Saturday for #HeritageOpenDays 2024 🤩
Students dressed up as characters from the #MurderMostUnladylike series by alumnae Robin Stevens. CLC inspired Robin's "Deepdean School" and visitors toured many places which feature in the novels.
We're looking forward to welcoming students back to College next week for the start of the Autumn Term. We're wishing all new pupils an enjoyable start to CLC.

This week on Instagram and Facebook we're celebrating #STEAM.
In light of this, here is a great photo of the 'The New Science Wing' which was featured in the 1905 CLC magazine.
#Science was introduced by Dorothea Beale in the 1860s, despite societal and parental opposition.
Ahead of the Women's 10km Marathon Swimming tomorrow at the @Olympics, here is a photo of a CLC #swimming lesson in 1950.
Prior to this photo during #WW2, the pool had been boarded over to create extra space for lessons after College buildings were requisitioned.

CLC is celebrating its 170th Anniversary this evening with drinks in the College Gardens, just like the garden party on the same grounds in 1953 to celebrate the centenary (pictured).
